I'm considering restoring an eco islander air meter to turn for profit. A friend and I bought a couple of them, on the old buy one sell the other plan. He is keeping the one for his shop and I'd rather have the cash to start on my pontiac and my dads truck. These things turn for stupid money every so often on evil bay and ours have the light pole base attached to the back. I'm looking for copies of period photos to pattern the paint scheme after. Otherwise I'm leaning toward a bright blue and yellow "sunoco" or red and white "mobile gas" theme.

You might try www.vics66.com. They have several pics of restored Eco's in their new catalog, along with most of the resto parts if needed.

I think most were just painted red. But do what trips your trigger color wise.

You see them painted all kinds of colors and patterns. Originally most were solid colors red being the most common.

If you want to restore it correctly solid red would be the best bet as it would have worked with many stations. Mobil, Texaco, Shell, Esso, all had red in their logos and on their gas pumps. If the solid colors don't suit you just do any way you want it.

To me they just don't look right two toned and decaled but that's just me do it the way you like it and if it doesn't sell you can keep it and be happy with it.

I appears the ones we bought are in their original black. I was thinking going two tone but it would be simpler and likely have more sales appeal to go with a single color. Now all I have to do is find source some of the overhead lamp parts.

    thanks guys

Try www.oldgas.com they have links to all the dealers you will need as well as forums. You will find all your gas station info there. (great bunch of guys too)
My vote is to paint it red, maybe do some white pinstripe work. Most of them were red, most of the original light bonnetts are red porcelain. (with white inside)
It really depends on the area you are in, out on the west coast a cream / tan and red will get a lot of buyers, because Gilmore is huge here.
    Red always sells.

Somebody beat me too it with www.oldgas.com, it is the gas collecters version of the HAMB. Jack Sim is the guy to talk to on there. He has an excellent gas pump id book and recently did an air pump book, (I think it is out now)
