I was just going through some old photos I took at the Street Rod Nats in St. Paul in 1987 or 1988 and came across the photo of a 3/4 scale Chevy that was there. As I remember it was extremely well done and I was just curious if anyone had any more info about the build???
I saw that truck at the KKOA leadsled show in Holland Michigan in 1988 it looked great. It was parked next to a stocker. saw it there again in 1992 and every single welded area had shrunk and you could see everywhere it was cut and it was cut in a lot of places. almost looked like it may have been brazed together or something, It was a shame how it was coming apart at the seams
....That is sad. Too bad that someone went to such great lengths to create such a cool truck and not do it right.
could be if it was brazed instead of welded and the brazing flux not cleaned well enough that it was trying to force its way out through the body filler or if it was welded but not welded solid that moisture from the backside was causing rust and growing out of every seam
Terry Steagel(spelling) was/is the owner. More about it here. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/o-t-minnnature-48-chevy-pickup.114398/
It's not the metal shrinking it's the filler moving. Guys reduce the amount of hardener they put in in order to get more working time for large areas or if it's hot out and it leaves the filler not fully catalyzed. The filler will continue to move with heat cycles and eventually show through to the paint layer as everything above it moves with it. We call it mapping. It is more common on dark cars because they get much hotter in the sun causing the filler to expand and contract more.
Be cooler as a 3/4 ton, 3/4 race cam and with one of those 3/4 corvette ******s. Just my .75 cents worth.
