I'm not sold on the U.S. Wheel identification... check this thread with all the fun pictures: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=617481

Even in 327-365's pics of his US Wheel mags, the mounting flange to spoke casting has a totally different radius and I don't see the taper between the spokes. Anyone care to post a pic of the back of their US wheel to help further the discussion?

I have a couple of pairs of U.S. Wheels - they were the only manufacturer to make an aluminum 16" x 8.5" five spoke back in the late 1960s/ early 1970s.

If it does not say American Racing and is an aluminum wheel, then it is NOT a Torq Thrust period. The 15" x 6" Torq Thrusts also had 'Sport Wheel' cast into them - the only size that had this....

You're right Tinman, there are so many torq-thrust copies, we can only guess who made them. There's no way to be sure with any wheel that is not marked with the makers name. Another thing that's throwing things off is stovebolts picture is of a 14" wheel. Best advice I can give stovebolt is to buy every 5 spoke he can find. :D And "search" for torq-thrust on ebay. If anyone is selling 5 spoke wheels they should have torq-thrust in their ad, otherwise they won't be selling.

  9. If memory serves me the ET styled mags of the 60s spokes were more rounded on their ridge and not as pointed. I still have my 14" set that will probably go for sale at Fall Carlisle this year - I had them on my 62 409 car way back around 1980. I still have the plastic centers that allow you to screw on different spinners, etc. Wish I could find some nice tall 14" tires and I'd use them today .... tallest 14" tire now is around a 215 ....
