    so that's what i built!!
i built mine about 15 years ago. i live in the desert and since everything is sand, its hard to move stuff around. (motors, frames, rear ends) i built a frame like a model t and used a pinto v6 drive train. it has booms on the front and back. it's not very low geared, but i can pick up and move anything i need to.

    AngryFrenchman,

I'm just northwest of Worcester - near Quabbin Reservoir. You've got a nice one - made from a roadster if I'm not mistaken.

Great to see an actual Doodlebug thread.

We had a doodlebug as kids. It was a 1933 International with a dually rear axle. It had military tires in the rear fitted with chains. The seat was a large cast in place hunk of concrete. Great traction.

    A fine looking doodlebug.

  13. When I was a lad living in Arnprior Ontario Doodlebugs were the rage. They used 40s cars and chopped of the roof and body back from the dash. The frame was hacked off and the rear end moved up just behind the front seat and bolted solid to the frame. Driveshafts were a matter of inches. Fords and Chevies were popular and were the old 40s Plymouths and Dodges. Gary Moorhead of Moorhead Towing was a prime mover with these. Most were built at the local B/A station owned by Sales or Sills. I cant remember now. I bought a set of front fenders of one of them to replace the smashed fenders and grill in my 42 Plymouth Club coupe. They were from a 46 and despite being slightly different fit just fine. Dad wouldnt let us (13 year olds) make the old 42 into a doodlebug. He might as well of though because I sold it to Gary Moorhead's cousin Eddy and he left it at the edge of the Madawaska river when they closed the big dam for the power project. Far as i know it is still there.

Thank you for this post! This stuff is great! I spotted a couple of these on a farm in Mankato and had no clue what they were for. I may have to go back and check these out. :)

I love it. They welded steel "spokes" from the tractor wheel to the stock rim. I thught about using this idea to build a boneshaker bicycle!

I'm guessing that was a "Toro" deal. Had a set on the rear to. Most likely
a conversion you could buy way back when.

I should have fingered that one out from the pix. I can't read the TORO markings on the crossmember... is that a town / mfg location on the left side? If so, what does it say? Thanx, Gary
