My old T roadster was lot #73, and sold at B-J on Tuesday for $17K. I missed it going across the block, and would like to have seen the bidding. If anybody recorded it, please PM me. Thanks!

    This is the car:

Hey Tony, I watched the "encore version" last nite at 4:00am est.. I have no doubt they will be replaying it on "Speed" until 2012..
Steve M had very good things to say about the car by the way.. I did not recognize who bought it.

Only $17K? Man, seems like it should have been higher than that. That's a nice looking car and looks well done too. Maybe the new BJ trend is cheaper prices than should be. Hope not the same for the Atomic Punk. Actually I'm hoping for $99,999.99 because that means I would get some of Denise's tasty cookies. :)

He is a dolt....He was a good NASCAR announcer, but why they bring him back year after year is beyond me....he knows nothing about american cars....last nite he just couldn't imagine trying to find the stainless trim for a 64 Chevy Super Sport...a couple of years ago he was just blown away by the little doo-dads (his words) that flip up above the doors of a 2-door hardtop 57 Chevy and wondering if those were stock....!
and they (the crew) still call them "shoebox chevies"....grrrrrr.

  12. I'll be there most the weekend, and at least they got Steve to save some face........and tri-fives have been called "shoeboxes" since I was a kid in the 60s.........Hell I got a 56 and I dont mid that term.........hope to see some of ya up there over the weekend, look for Over the Hill Gang (tucson) jacket

I had a friend call me right after that roadster sold and couldn't believe it sold for what it did. I thought 17 grand was a steal on that car.
I have another friend that took two cars out there that sold tonight and I am pretty sure he lost his rear by the time he pays his expenses and so on. I have heard that when they cut away for commercials the buyers don't bid as well, so if you are seller it really makes a difference from what my friend told me.

I'm sorry, but I'll have to respectfully disagree with you....I too was a kid in the 60"s
and I knew no one who refered to the 55 thru 57 Chevies as "shoeboxes"....Ive had 3 57s, a hardtop and 2 convertibles and they sure don't look like shoeboxes (unlike the 49-51 Fords)....would you call a 55-57 Ford a shoebox...? I challage you to look up the term in any of those magazines of that period and find the term....I believe the term started being used in the magazine "Custom Rodder" in the 80's...

I watched a little of the coverage last night and turned it off. Almost 60% of the air-time was commercials.

I watched American idol with the wife and family. Shoe box was the name the industry gave all car brands of cars as the body style after the war 1949 up to 58ish resembled a shoe box.

I was there last year and I don't know how someone in the audience would know if Speedvision was broadcasting live or if it went to commerical unless they were talking to someone on the phone that was watching TV or had alittle TV there themselves that they were watching.

  23. Am I missing something here? Over the past few years I've been amazed by the low selling prices for hot rods/ street rods. Cars have sold in the $20k - $30k range that obviously have cost multiples of that to build. I keep expecting to hear screams or gunshots from sellers who have lost their shirts. Why would someone bring a car to this auction knowing they're going to lose money???? $17k for that cool roadster just mentioned is a perfect example. On the other side of the coin, I'd be a very happy buyer with a deal like that.

Steve knows his stuff, and Mike's forte is "muscle". Both are better than Yates and "the aristocrat" they used to have on the block...but it's hard to know everything about every car...

Last night, Matt was arguing about how "sleeper-ish" a COPO Camaro could possibly be with a solid cam rattlin' away. Compared to "yipes-stripes" cars of the day, COPOs were very understated...damn quick...and damn cool! Wish I'd bought the running, number-matching "lump" I found in '85 that was offered for $7,000...

Don"t watch the show anymore,Barrett Jackson auction has got every Joe-blow with an old car thinking its worth a fortune just because one like theirs went for high dollar. Its a shame that a nice roadster like that brings only $17G then a fake fiberglass with all updated running gear and 18 inch bling wheels on it brings over a $100G. As for the 2-idiots describing the cars, those 2 need to go back to Nascar where every car is setup just alike and you don"t have to know much about them. The auction is just like all others ,if you spend alot with B.J. your car stays on the block 15 to 20 minutes,if not in and out the door fast.

My "bare bones" el-cheapo satellite package doesn't include Speed... guess I don't feel quite so bad about missing it now. I can catch up on everything I need to know, right here! :)

Mick, I thought that was a very nice moment. Have a feeling the price reflects the back story as much as the truck itself. I've been watching it late at night cause incant sleep....but it makes me so mad with the commercial breaks every 2 frigid mins, it gives me a headache!
