 Thinkin' of running Chevy's old L-79 #151 327/350 horse hyd. in the flat top piston 350 4 bolt I am throwin' in my 210 post 'til I gather up the stuff I need for the 292 c.i.d tri-power mill/ 3 speed on the tree to go in later. Just wonderin' if all the good things I have heard about this grind are justified. I am not lookin for the greatest cam ever designed!!! I bought this cam years back when Crane sold it un-touched from it's sixties specs. and want to try it out. How is the idle, and how high will it pull? Runnin' 4.10 gear with a low first gear 6cyl. late Saginaw 3 speed. Thanks for any info.

My experience is that it was extremely TAME ... in a 350. The extra 23 inches and the lower compression made it sound almost like a stock na na na camshaft.

Now it really talks in a 283 :D

Lotta duration for a 9:1 motor but you'll be fine with those 4:10 gears unless you're running 33" tires. Good Luck

I've had three of 'em. One in a 283 was pretty lopey, but revved like crazy! The other two were in 350's. The cubes did tame them quite a bit. The higher comp. one had more lope at idle, but they both had noticeable power increase over the "grocery-getter" cams they came with. I would use one again in a daily driver. Better cams out there for all-out street power, but none more driveable that I've seen.

I ran that cam in a 305 years ago. I wasnt impressed. Seemed stock but did make great power over 30mph. But it was my first engine build and i used 350 heads with highway gears. 2.73's. Guy i sold the car to justy swapped out the rearend for a posi with 3.73's and ran low 15's at the track. It was an 82 buick regal by the way.

Yep I got one in a 77 Caprice two door with 3:73 gears. Good daily motor. I think it pulls just as hard as the 406 did with a 280 cam did.

There are much better cams out there now....but thats not a really bad one and, hey, it's already paid for. Drop it in and run it.
