Want to run my steering sprint car style, through the cowl of my roadster. Can anybody who's doing it shoot some words of wisdom my way, pix too if you got any. Type of box that works best, length of arm, etc.

    Thanks

Check out the So-What roadster pick-up. I'm pretty sure there's some build up shots of it. Its a great example to reference to.

New issue of Street Rodder has a little blue roadster that runs a sprinter box thru the cowl. The box looks like a mini quickchange rearend. They don't show the blister for the steering arm though. (all the pics are of the right side)

  12. We've done two different boxes in this style and both worked great. Both boxes were swapmeet finds and we're not 100 percent sure what they were. i think my box was out of a Divco milk truck and Larry's was out of an early Chevy truck. Any box that the pitman arm hangs down on will work. If the pitman arm is not on it turn the steering column shaft. The pitman arm shaft should turn the opposite way the column shaft turns.

We use a pitman arm shaft out of a junk steering box to get the pitman arm out to where it's supposed to be.

Here's a pic of the box in my old RPU

I'm with you hotrodA, that trackster is******in'

Clark, any more picts of the rpu? Do the vintage sprinter boxes turn too quick for street use? How long is your pitman arm? (sorry, sounds bad)

  14. The real sprint car boxes turn too hard for the street.
Not sure how long the pitman arm was. 10 inches maybe
Here's a pic of the outside

He're's a Schroder (sp?) sprintcar unit in Ken Schmidts '32 roadster. He has the same set up in his '32 three window. Never heard him say it steered too hard on the street.
Sorry the picture quality is so poor. I had to reduce it too much to get it small enough for this site.

I'm looking into the same kind of steering on the Track-T
If you cruise around this site you might find some ideas
