I just keep thinking the ass end on the 49-52 chevys are a little to bulky. Has any Hambers ever take a bit out of the mid section of one? I'd really like some pics and input on this... Thanks, Andre
Hi Andre, Depending on how much you want to reduce the area, a shrinking disc will do the work without welding. It takes a long time though. This album shows how to reduce a lump: http://allshops.org/cgi-bin/community/communityalbums.cgi?action=openalbum&albumid=9980124046566 This is more generic information: http://allshops.org/cgi-bin/community/communityalbums.cgi?action=openalbum&albumid=9980121727059 Do you have pictures of the area you want to reduce? There are other techniques as well. John www.ghiaspecialties.com
If you decide to cut and weld, here are some photos to go by. I like the approach that this guy took. I've see people make a million slits around a cut line. Then push the upper and lower pieces together and weld it all up. This way seems like a much better way to me. http://koti.mbnet.fi/~skote/BlueEye/Luukku.htm Chris
I have always seen the "slice and splice" method. This approach of splitting down the middle looks sensible. If I'm not mistaken, it looks as if he made his cut line around the middle, split the top piece, then brought the two pieces down, the filled the gaps no? nice work.
only seen it in person with the slice and pie cut method, was thinkin about this for my plymouth trunk, but gotta do top work first, and pick a top, not sure i wanna keep teh plymouth, maybe 50 bel air... not sure yet... but we are gonna pancake the trunk on my frioends 53 bel air i think... or the 54 bel air being built, but thats getting full section, shop, channel, hehehe... thats a long ways away from done, too much work, too many cars... arggg! i gotta quit my job!
