I found what looks & sounds to be a super old '32. I would love to have it all but really only need the body. Several HAMBers have vouched for the seller. He is supposed to be a straight-up, honest guy. I can't figure a way to get it home without paying through the nose for commercial shipping. Anyway, here's my offer: Wanna split it? PM me if interested. Thanks, JH
It's getting it across the border that's killing the deal. Harrison.....who and what kind of numbers are you getting from Manitoba to the border(and across I presume) Is it because the city is remote? Just inquiring.
It ain't for me, but I think it's really cool that you're offering this up. Someone needs to do something cool with that car, and it's a fair deal compared to many I've seen. Kudos to ya Amigo. I hope you end up with as much of it as you need. ~Scotch~
Shit man ,we don,t have no borders over here. Just drive right through. Maybe you need to dismantle that '32 and take it across piece by piece.
Damn Jim, great score. What's the timeline on this transaction? Will he hold it for a bit? I just started in on the coupe again, so I'm gonna be buried again money-wise, but this is tempting.
Why is the border killing the deal? That car is duty free, there shouldn't be any issues bringing it over as long as it's not stolen. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/import/infrequent_importer_info/
I think what Jim is saying is that he needs someone from Canada to start a relay down to the states. The car must be WAY out in the boonies.
I would like to be able to help somehow but do not have the equipment (no trailer, hitch). The only running vehicle I have is my '53 F100 which the '32 would not fit in. Baldur is about a 4-5 hour round trip from me (which puts the car in Winnipeg) but I see the border as a bigger issue. When I sold my Model A ealier this year to some fellows from Phoenix they required a notarized bill of sale to demonstrate ownership. Which means you need to be there. Not sure how to get around that one....other than another 'owner' with a notarized doc dropping it south of the 49th. I was speaking with Rick yesterday (unrelated subject- my F100) and he seems like a great guy that might be able help out. Good luck, Al PS I am planning a trip to Baldur within a month or so and would be able to provide 'muscle' etc
JIM ... if you just have 5 to spend ... borrow 3 ... and get the entire car. I would offer him 7,000 cash ... on this side of the border. Then you would have a grand to go get it ... Even a old man like me can drive 1000 to 1200 miles in 1 day ( 24 hours ) ... just did it last Monday/Tuesday dragging a trailer. Load the Mordor ( on the US side ) and then get a motel ... rest a little and head back home ... The seller's window of selling the Mordor South is closing fast ... because the cold and snow is on it's way ... severely limiting his chances to move it and sell it. Once you got it home ... the V8 engine and transmission bring decent $$$ on eBay. You could eBay the fenders, frame horn covers, headlight bar and lights plus other non required 32 Ford parts for your build ... SO you would get you close to the 3 grand back ( Or even make some $$$ ) and you would have the original frame and body ... all for just a little more than what you are willing to pay for the body ... Beg, borrow or whatever to get the 3 grand ... Get a 90 day note at the bank ... or ... I have used Visa ... in the past to finance a project ... that was too good to pass up ... not the best way to do it but I have ... Randy
I think the easiest thing to do, if this crazy deal can even happen, is to beg the current owner to bring it south of the border. Then take ownership. I have a small handful of folks interested in doing something on this one. I'd like to make it work for all of us but there's only one car to split here. A few partnerships still present fairly sizeable shipping issues. A few others don't. We'll see. JH
Randy, What you propose makes sense but, with a wife & 5yr old both in school & a 7 month old just now crawling, I don't have time to go get it. I also don't want to go into debt - even for 90 days - to buy a car that I don't HAVE to have. I know it's a '32, they don't make 'em anymore, I could end up in a body cheap, I'll wish I had done it someday, etc..... I won't go into debt to make it happen.
I argee ... BUT ... Why not just go and get it ... need a riding partner ... ? HRP and his lovely wife say I am a ROAD DOG ...
Believe me, It's a whole lot easier for the buyer to take it across than have the seller do it! If he drags it over for you, he'll need to go through a customs broker and it'll cost you plenty. Been there, done that.
get that thing!!! but if you can't let me know i have a body but not nearly as nice as that one, in oregon that i will probably end up selling in a bit. i need to pick it up too. good luck though, gary
Wow nice find. I'm a Canadian living in Phoenix and 3 yrs ago did the drive back to the frozen north for a 64 Beaumont. It was in Saskatchewan. Left Phx on a sunday night and was back with it the following friday night. Bit of an adventure as it was november, was by myself driving a newer F150 2 wheel drive with Calif tags and smooth highway tires. You guessed it.........blizzard. Empty pickup, pulling an empty trailer, stopped on the main street of a little town in Sask and was stuck there. Locals got a big joke out of the Calif pickup stuck on their main drag. Anyway, next day the farmer helped me load the car, drove me into the local little town where I transfered it into my name (they call it an ownership not a title) and hit the road. Crossing into the USA was easy, one form, $15 and off again. Took maybe 20 minutes. No hassle. I think it was easy because I already owned it. Anyway, I know a farmer who lives about an hr away in Brandon. His farming slows down in the winter and he might help, maybe even trailer it across the border, but lots of ifs........$ .......customs.......ownership.....Let me know if I can help. Could have the farmer store it till spring and maybe get it myself. Too busy now.
The car might be way in the boonies for you guys, but its pretty close to me (relatively). I would help you out dude, however I dont have a trailer. Dont know if there are other members from Manitoba on this board that might be able to help out. I'd have to rent out a trailer... Heard lots about Loboys, never dealt with them. I always thought they were a little overpriced... Mike
