Could use some input on choppin a 1949 F1 if any of you have done one before. Oh and maybe dropping the front if I decide to salvage the straight axel. We, my buddies and I chopped a 1949 Ford Coup but never a truck. I havent even had a chance to go out to do any measuring, maybe this weekend. If you can help I would appreciate it.
Well if ya chopped a car you can probably do a pickup easier. It is best if you have some spare doors and a roof but not necesary. The last one we did we quarted the roof it made for more welding but had a real good look cause we did not have to lean the windsheild post (which sometimes give that pinched look). If you have the extra door tops that makes for less welding because then instead of adding a little piece you over cut the door top to match the other cut from exsisting door. Aw hell just do it.
I helped with one at the community college a few years ago. Thats how had to do it. Try to get a doner roof if possible.
That's how I want it to look, how many inches did you end up taking out? Thanks for the pics. I have some of my buddies trying to talk me out of the chop but after seeing yours it's on.
Where are you located?? I've got 2 '50 F-1's for parts. Could cut the roof off one of 'em so you'd have less welding to do. Josh
I'm in California, about an hour North of Fresno in the central valley. I also need some suspension items like a drag link, pitman arm, steering box and column. Money is a bit tight with the holidays comming but soon I'll be ready to start gathering more parts up again.
I think I may do it this winter, that way I can just put the cab on a dolly to move it in and out of the shop. What do you think? Ready to separate the cab from the frame?
