Looking for info on chopping a 53 or 54 chev convert. The windshield is a no brainer, but is it a matter of lowering the pivots on the body and shortening the main front rail? or has anyone seen a magazine article. I am just dreamin of a car for sale that would look nice chopped. Thanks......

I am getting the 57 for a driver, with some brake updates, so its up to rush hour every day. And the 54 I just want, I always thought the top on 54 rags looked just a taste too tall. I might not get the rag, there are still a couple of cars on the hamb I want to check on when I get my money this week.

Am I the only one who doesn't care for Carson Tops? I always felt that if you're going to chop a ragtop, you ought to chop the top mechanism too.

I agree, Carson tops are for hardtops with the roof whacked off (failed chops?). If you have the ragtop parts, use 'em!

  7. You might PM our Bob K. His early 50's chopped convert is very similar as is my chopped '40. On my '40 I cut the main part behind the door as a starting point. Then lengthened the front until it met the w/s header again. This is a critical step because the more chop the more length this part needs, and if you make it too long it won't fold into the top well. In that case you would need to add some to the intermediate piece and not as much to the front piece, After the basics are cut and they fold okay you can cut and/or reposition the remaining bows for a contour that pleases you. A couple strips of top pads or canvas or such can be used to tie the bows together to check the shape.
