Anyone driven cross the country

  1. Book your steamship p***age early in the spring. You will have to leave St Joseph Missouri by the end of June if you expect to beat the early snowfall in the Sierra Mountains on your way into California.

We tell everyone that now ever since the Donner Party situation.

It all depends on what you're driving. I favor a 4 horse Conistoga myself but then I'm a traditionalist you know. I've seen some young fellas do impressively with a good Army mule and a stripped down buckboard. They call 'em Rail Jobs or something.

The scenery is impressive and you will want to make some Daguerotypes along the way. Bring lots of silver nitrate. And your victuals of course. The food along the way can vary in quality. But if you like snake you are in luck. I hear it tastes like lutefiske.

Have a good time "Out West" It's where a man can think pretty much what he thinks he ought be thinking. And that ain't necessarily bad.
