Did you ever e-mail Dan? or Call?......Seems like most are waiting for the problem to fix itself. I could see waiting a month or two, but not a year. Dan is pretty on it about getting issues to subscribers that did not get them.....

    again!

Prolly not a good idea to call your customers fuckers... Just an opinion.

In any case, I think that's the issue man. Folks aren't getting responses to their emails... or calls... or posts... or anything.

  7. I buy mine at our drugstore or Borders. My brother paid for a sub MONTHS ago and has never seen an issue after repeated PMs and Emails to Stoner. There is your source of communication breakdown.

This is a good example as to why I won't even look at an issue.

  10. I got stiffed by them year one at the first Lone star Round Up.
I've bought one or two newstand issues since. Decent mag, but I wouldn't
subscribe and expect shit. I'll stick to the subscriptions that actually show up.

No, it's not my problem and not one I really feel like dealing with.

Obviously, there is a problem... I just don't want to own it. I've never gotten heavily involved with any issues like this in the past unless they were deals from our classifieds section. I'm not going to start now... Why would I? I'm no cop or legal entity or anything like that.

As suggested earlier, I'll just leave this one unlocked so long as it doesn't create too much drama.

This is, after all, a hot rod forum... not a forum about lifestyle magazines that can't fill subscriptions.

Here's the way I see it. Its the same deal as Marty/ Eelco.
Someone that consistantly fails to perform as agreed and promised. Took customers' money and failed to deliver over and over again. Marty got banned, didn't he?
Let em back on if they clean up their act.

i can't wait to see the second issue released this year (it's gonna be good,) and look forward to when this beast runs on all cylinders. this mag's got all the parts in it to win-- it just needs to be dialed in before it blows up.

i'm still betting on the fact that things will tune up nicely.

That's the difference, that company was banned for screwing people in our classified section... And they sold hot rod parts.

Bank of America screwed me over today... I can't rightly bann all of their employees can I?

Why because he used profanity just like most of us do every hour of every day ??? Ryan I dont think it matters if he said fuckers or not. Thats just a word and some of us out here can relate to that with out getting upset. This is the HAMB.... No profanity in the subject line but after that its go for it unless its verbal attacks against someone.. That said I think most of these fuckers :D:D just want the mag back. although money layed out deserves something in return... From what i read it aint really the money.... they love the mag and thats why they subscribed... Ill be looking for the next issue in the stores.. they have me wondering now cause ive never seen an issue but ill have one now..
Ive never met jesse but ive seen him on tv and i really dont think he is an asshole. Then on the other hand weve all been one a time or two..
    Pass that popcorn again please..
    Dave

  18. I agree with the bossman. Unless Garage is being sold (not old copies) on the HAMB, he shouldn't ban it.

I wasn't going to comment this time but it's like driving by hookers. No matter how ugly they are, you gotta look at em.

The obvious solution to this is for Garage to stop offering subscriptions and fill out those that they are obligated to until they run out. I'm sure they are reading this so that's what I'd do so I didn't have to listen to any more bitching fuckers. They can probably sell all they print at newstands anyway.

For everyone else, I think after 4-5 of these threads it should be real obvious to never subscribe to this magazine. Just keep an eye on the mag stand at your local Wal-Mart, B&N, ebay whatever and buy them as they are occasionally published. That makes the long wait a little more enjoyable (sorta like 20 years ago when every other christmas you'd find those english made chocolate oranges and think it was your lucky day) when it actually shows up.

That's what I do and I still enjoy it and don't have to get into a bitch fight with anybody who clearly would rather be doing something else.

PS: Bank of America is a far sleazier buisness than Garage Magazine. I hope they find out they bought a big bag of shit from Countrywide and don't get any free ride.

Hey, y'all – I know I've posted this stuff before many times, so I apologize if some of you have to read this again, but at the same time, it's the least I can do for those of you who still have problems with your GARAGE subscription.

First and foremost, I want you to know that we've got a new subscription service that comes along with a handy online form for signing up or asking questions about an existing sub. Plus, there's a toll-free number you can call, too. Here's the number and link:

    (866)-940-2436 (Mon-Fri, 9am - 5pm EST)

    or

    http://www.garagemagazine.com/contact.html

Please give them a call, since we've turned over all the accounts to them to handle. I've spent alot of time with the owner of this firm, bringing him up to speed on our situation and he's staffed up to handle all the questions and concerns. I told him that we've got alot of unhappy customers (me included) who don't deserve to suffer because of our old subscription service that was trying to hold onto passengers as their ship was sinking. So, they're sympathetic to our cause and ready to help.

Secondly, I want to take a few minutes here to explain how the whole thing works:

    PayPal
We've shut down the PayPal service since we now have a bona fide subs service. BUT, if you signed up with PayPal in the past, you'll be automatically renewed unless you go into your PayPal account and turn that feature off (remember that statement that comes up right before you paid describing this feature?). PayPal will automatically debit your card/account when you buy the sub, but the money sits in an account that we don't touch until we're ready to go to press with the next issue. So, while it looks like we "took your money," we actually don't until you're just about ready to get your first issue. Not that this is a huge deal, but I get that question alot...

    Subs shipments
It's true that all our subscribers' copies are mailed directly from the press in Denver, CO. Once a sub is purchased, the service sends a mailing list with your name and address on it to the mail house at the press. They configure a mailing label that gets printed onto the polybag and off it goes. Once your issue hits the US Postal Service mailstream, it's out of our hands entirely. Some folks get their issue in California in three days, some folks right there in Denver get theirs a week later. I don't get it, either, but I do get that question pretty often. Look, (and I'm not making a slur to those HAMBers who work for the USPS), the USPS is about as inept as any gubment institution. They lose shit constantly, send to the wrong house, issues just vanish into thin air once they leave the plant and the list goes on. The USPS also does "quality checks" where they'll just remove copies from the mailstream and not do one goddam thing to replace them. So, if you don't get your issue, there's a good chance the USPS took it from you or lost it entirely. Here's a good example: when I put out Issue #2, I drove my Dodge 1500 right up to the post office with 2000 copies of the magazine to ship to stores –*and they "lost" 900 copies! No explanation, no compensation and the shithead behind the counter just said, "Oh well, too bad for you since you didn't buy insurance..." Right. There went $4500 of my own money right down the drain. Guess who ate ramen for about two months straight?

Now, the new subs company also has copies of the last two issues, so if you need yours replaced, they'll take care of that, too. Just let them know and they'll help.

    Issue #18
Jesse's right: the next issue is on press and it's been there waiting for a few things to happen so that we can make it an even better issue. If you got #17, you haven't missed an issue at all –*we're just behind in getting out the next one. Things are tight all over – especially for us:

paper prices have gone through the roof because of the oil and petroleum it takes to make it and truck it to the press

the special coatings we use on our covers has been replaced with a more expensive version of it because of how it gums up the equipment that sprays it down

mail prices have gone sky high because of oil prices and the USPS has really stuck it to businesses relying on them to make any money –*nearly 75% in cost hikes for us

We print right here in the U.S. –*it's much cheaper to print overseas, but Jesse believes in keeping this magazine on American presses and I commend him for that. It's not always easy putting your money where your mouth is, but I'd like to think we're doing our small part to not take our business offshore and keep jobs here, for what that's worth.

OK, so that's about the long and short of it. As always, if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to call me directly:

    415-621-2477
    chief@garagemagazine.com

I may not be here when you call or I may be on the line (we only have one phone line here), but I'll always answer an email as quickly as I get them. Also, I'm rarely on this board, so please please please try getting me on either the phone or my email address before you go off here on the HAMB. Ryan and a few others always have my back and let me know when this comes up on the boards, but I'd really appreciate it if you reach out to me directly first at that email address above. I get emails at the office and on my crackberry simultaneously (much as my wife hates me emailing in bed at night), but you can take advantage of that little addiction of mine...and it gives me a chance to help you before you feel like your only recourse is taking the problem to the HAMB.

Thanks again, folks – I appreciate you working your way through this long-ass post, but it's important to me that you know exactly how this all works!

On the contrary, graverobber – I'm giving you a direct line to me. You won't get a faster answer than that. I don't even answer my home phone as fast I answer emails to that address. I bet you wouldn't answer an email from me at 6am, but I'd do it for you.

And Monsterflake – you may have missed the cutoff for Issue #17, depending on what day you signed up, but email me directly and I'll put one in the mail for you...

I posted the correspondence I had with Stoner a little higher up in this thread. Hell I bought a few issues at VLV for 5 bucks over the cover price to fill in the gap .. I emailed Stoner with my paypal purchase information.. etc.. once in Feb. couple times this summer when I saw threads with contact information.. I bought the Dita issue at borders to buy more time.. and still am waiting. Again ... it is 20 bucks.. I like the magazine and would love to have it delivered to my home.. What more can you do.. subscribe and hope.. Please send me the next one.. and the next three and you have a friend in Hodad.. Hope to see a Garage in the mailbox soon..
