have lots of furniture that i restored back in the 80's.Nice thing about it was all built really well and made to last.Alot of it was made out of quarter sawn oak which looked really nice with a lite tint stain and satin poly finish.Only way you find quarter sawn furniture now is from the amish and you pay big bucks.

I am into that stuff as well. I grew up going to auctions with my Mom and our house had a lot of antiques inside. Part of it is nostalgia, wondering who owned it before you and where it came from- the other part is, like mentioned earlier, these things were built to last. There is great satisfaction in owning and refurbishing something that will outlast all of the garbage that is made today.

I collect antiques toys, furniture, and old European Beer Steins. Check this German Regimental Stein given by the Kaiser to one of his Generals during WW1! This is a hand painted stein. No decals here. I purchased it from a WWII veteran who saw combat in Germany.

I love to go look. Buy some beer or cigar stuff once in a while.

Need to start looking for more auto/truck related stuff, maybe toy cars too.

  20. That first stien resembles what is termed "trench art" i.e. world war one artillery casings pounded and shaped into different things by the troops in the trenches.

I wouldn't go so far as to say obsessed, but I most certainly have my favorites.

Collect quite a lot of antique furniture, car related stuff, license plates. Love to buy and sell the stuff. My wife and I have a booth in an Antique Mall in Louisville, Ky. My wife tries to sell all my old car related stuff, and I try to sell all her old crap. It's funny as hell. We haul the other's stuff in and then we find out it is in the booth and we hurry in and try to get it out before it gets sold out from under us. We would save a lot of time and energy, by asking the other if they want to sell it or not. Funny!

  23. Old tools I have two 220volt 10" grinders both are from the 30s,I have a powermatic variable speed drill from 53 and a12" disc and 4"x36" belt sander with bilt in dust vac this was from55 . Also a logan lathe from the 50's . None of them looks to pretty but all function well.
In the early 80's I travelled a lot in north africa with a another gear head we ended up helping some people fix and old diesel powered mill .This old man in the village gave me ahand carved "neck rest" and he said it was very old. All you have to do is pick it up and you feel it is really old.

Do these count? I would have a house full of old treasures, if allowed.

Glad I am not the only one. Growing up my parents collected antiques from up and down the eastcoast and I couldnt understand why they bought old junk when they could by new stuff. Now I am just as bad. Antique cars, tractors, toys, furniture you name it and I like it.
