I guess I`ll have to keep my very neglected old truck out of sight until I can blow it apart and make it look like the other thousand F-1 trucks out there. Not apolozing for it `cause I like it.

Every car/truck out there is done differently for a reason. No one persons taste govern how projects are completed or we would all be driving red `32 roadsters. How boring would that be?

On barn finds and survivors I think it’s cool. Both my current projects have their fair share of “patina”. My 49 sat in a barn for 30+ years and the paint oxidized pretty badly. But neither it or my 66 Ford would look good with rust showing through the paint. I can’t afford to paint em right now, and that’s last priority anyways, but I did go ahead and shoot some primer on the bad spots that I sanded down.
I’ve seen some killer old tri-fives with patina, and plenty of barn find hot rods where it just looks right.
The one thing I can’t stand? Rusty paint jobs on fiberglass cars, and cars that actually have decent paint jobs. Yeah, I know it takes a lot of skill to realistically make something appear rusty that isn’t, but it just seems very poser-ish to me. Rust is a symbol of a survivor, it’s like a battle scar. A fiberglass 32 doesn’t deserve that “badge”.

  4. I have a collector car dealership All my cars are used. I like them with a little wear here and there it gives the the comfortable personalized look and feel. I hate cars that look like they just came off a trailer. Paint em with a brush a rattle can or leave them natural it all fine to me................ And still very well excepted these days, my fresh brush painted 32 roadster just made the cover and inside of Old Car Weekly magazine recently and alot of there readers are purists . And just in case your wondering-- Nope no hate mail yet!!

If you're missing it, I'm missing it too. I always hear people saying, "I'm not going to restore it as a tribute to the original builder." I can just imagine the original builder saying, "Someday I hope somebody keeps this as an ugly and nonfunctional eyesore just because of me." Personally, I think it would be more of a tribute to have the car standing tall and kicking ass again.

    from somewhere

like the other thread; this is what i had to say:

I'm all for "old". Im an "old" fanatic. I think its really awsome to see original cars out driving around. I love the look of them and i enjoy looking at them

    With that being said:

I do not like seeing cars, or trucks, in poor condition. I don't like seeing bare metal and i absolutely hate seeing rust. Rust is not Patina....it is a sign of neglect. Every car, no matter what it is, rolled off the assembly line with a shiney paint job-whether you'd all like to admit it or not. Shiney is traditional too. If the car is rusting or has bare metal; then it's time to start thinking of a plan to re-finish the car or at least put it in primer. You do not have to spend a million to still keep the "cool factor".

To me, there is no excuse for driving around a rot box and letting a perfectly good peice of hot rodding history to rot away into the ground. the same people who are driving these rot boxes...are the ones who whine when junkyard finds go to the crusher for scrap metal. What's the difference? You're driving a wonderful peice of American automobile history; but you're willing to let it rot away from underneath you for the sake of "cool."

Rust is not patina. Bare metal is not patina---and i don't care what you say but when i see rust, i see rot. Someone on the other thread stated that "patina is hot rodding history". I strongly disagree. falling off paint and rotting metal is not patina. The car and the fabrication are hot rodding history and should be looked after and preserved as such. if the paint is old but still in good/fair condition with all the attributes of wear and is still protecting the car the way it should...then i think this is AWSOME and this is what i like to see on a "patina" car

even if you don't have a lot of money; you can work with your local paint specialists to get an orignal color to the car that still has an old school flavor to it. it does not have to be shiny and glossy.

    Who gives a rat's ass????

Next time a pointless thread like this is started it should be treated as a poll...then the mindless people who need other people's validation for their opinions can take a quick glance at the poll results to see what they should think / like.

My Nomad was painted in 1986 (originally sierra gold and adobe beige). The paint is faded. Every couple of years, I forget that patina is cool and buff it out. When it's been in car shows, I've seen guys tell their kids, wives, girlfriends, "Now,this car has patina. See how it's faded there along the tops of the fenders and on the hood. I love it when people leave the original paint on the car." Me too, but I didn't!

  19. Rust is a symbol of NEGLECT. And if not dealt with, will insure the eventual demise of that treasure. If you guys love these cars so much, why don't you protect them after you get it in your hands?

I don't think he was complaining about the quality of the car, only its presentation, but hey, nice job personalizing it and attacking him.

What ever does the trick for you.I personally like to use my cars. So they naturally get a worn look and feel to them.

I spend more time searching through all of the valuable information contained in this site than posting. Fortunately, most of the information I need has been readily available...sometimes because the same question has been posted multiple times.

I also have no need to be wise...I am content in this case in being 100% right :)

...but, in truth I was just really pissed off at myself because I end up wasting 20 minutes of my time reading through completely useless threads like these!!!

    There...8 posts...am I any more wise now??? :)

  24. You've increased your posts in over 2 yrs here by nearly 25% on this useless thread. LMAO:D:p

Well, I am finally getting the hang of things now...I will be an "Old School Hamb'er" in no time!

Actually...12.5% replying to the pointless thread...and 12.5% replying to a smartass reply to my post in a pointless thread :) although further calculations of percentages are going to get increasing difficult.
