Anyone ever have someone mess with your rod

I plan on running my truck without a hood, do I need to worry about people screwing around with my stuff? This summer my friend had someone put sand in the oil tank on his Harley and it wiped out his motor. I was thinking of maybe coming up with some sort of locking oil fill cap and tamper proof air cleaner nut. Does this make sense, or am I worried for nothing? I don't want to have to constantly watch my rod in parking lots.

Only thing we ever had, was a young girl sitting on my wifes t-bird, getting her picture taken. But nobody has ever f**ked one of our cars up. I just kinda try to check on them every once in a while.

How many people do you piss off, and how many chicks do you steal from dudes who know what you drive? In my experience, people don't thrash **** just to be thrashing ****...

The only reason I'd worry about that is if you have done anybody wrong in the past year but other than that you'll probably be fine just don't let the people you piss off know what you drive.

Always worry - there are people out there that are just flatout resentful of anyone that has something nice. Others are just punks that like to create chaos. I lost about a dozen air cleaners off my first T-bucket, and that was back in the mid 60s. Had 6x2s on a 272 sbc - first time it was frog-eye scoops, second time it was small air filters. Even took a couple of beertap shift knobs. Finally gave up and just didn't leave it parked while in the theater or restaurant. Just drove it to places I could keep an eye on it. Suggest you do the same. In deference to those on the HAMB who may not believe in the 2nd amendment, I won't bore you with the results of catching two fools popping my very cherry OEM 8" rally caps and rings off of my El Camino. The police politely thanked me (and verified that I had a valid CCW permit). Aside from that sort of luck, there's not much you can do if you want to show off your handiwork without running the risk of some jerk doing mischief.

Get a cover for it. Put it on at night or if you're going to leave it sitting out of sight for any length of time. You can even get covers with eyes for a lock.

Kind of a ***** to do all the time, but usually most people won't take the time to pull a cover off to mess with something. If they are determined, though, nothing you do will keep them out.

My parents have traveled over 100,000 miles by motorcycle. They followed this plan and never had anyone mess with their bike.

It would be parked in the garage at night. just worried about if i take it to a friends house parked on the street at a restaurant or bar. The just seems like some people like to f*** up other peoples stuff like getting keyed.

Except for cars shows, around here, if you leave it parked, they will steal the whole car.

I parked my T buckett out side of a show and some FAT B#tch and kids was all over it. When I seen them let just say it wasn't nice. And I was outside of the show but I could still see the car. But this has'nt stoped me from driveing my cars where and when I want. If you think to much you'll never drive it. the what ifs will kill you (someone hiting your car ,running a stop light or sign to many bad things happen all the time) Don't let it keep you from driven it.

Have a friend with a restored 55; 990/1000 type car. We're at a show far across the parking lot and we see two guys looking at the engine. One guy leans in and undoes the original air cleaner and takes it off to show the other guy something. WTF?

As i took my very young kids to shows years ago, I had the hardest time teaching them not to step on the painted running boards as we walked by or any others for that matter. They never did but oh was it tempting for the little rascals.

Not sure what utopia the people that say nothing will happen to it are from but here in SoCal there are way too many hater losers with too much time on their hands. They see anything shiney and they need to make it their own. It ****s but it's the reality we live in. Unfortunately, it's not about who you pissed off anymore, people will mess with your stuff just because they have nothing better to do.

My suggestion would be to never drive it somewhere that you can't keep an eye on it!

What about rolling cross country and parking outside a motel? When I rode a bike long distance I'd just bring it right into the motel room. Can't bring the Ford inside.

The ONLY time I ever parked where I couldn't keep an eye on my car was when I was with car people at a car event and even then, I sneek in a glance or two. Any other time, you're at the mercy of the ****holes who just don't give a ****.

It ****s, but it's the way it is with high profile vehicles and no matter how little money you have in your car, it's still a high profile vehicle. For every person giving you the thumbs up because it's a cool car, there's 4 more that would screw with it for the same reason.

Carry a bullet riddled corpse with you at all times and leave it on the ground every time you get out. Toss some blood for effect. Leave a note on the corpse's back that says "I tried to steal this car".

    Should solve your problems.

  26. I parked my Chevy for the first time out of sight when I was going to the local hot rod show. I thought that the calibre of people who paid to see cars couldn't be THAT bad.... until I returned and some ***** kicked my door in.
Now I drive a respectable beater, but I still get bad thoughts in the back of my mind when I can't see it.
    Some people are turds.

It is good to be concerned and aware, but you are in Fargo, No Dak. Lowest crime rate in 9 out of 10 previous years. If you cruise to the cities or other possible high crime rate areas keep a close eye on it. I have driven my 34 coupe coast to coast, parked it in a few shady places. Only had worries in East St. Louis on the Hot Rod Power Tour a few years back. Pretty dark lot and some busy dudes on the floor above me. Didn't sleep too well that night. Other than that, I have found that most people will check it out but not mess with it. A good, lockable car cover will give you a little more security. At car shows, cruises, etc keep your goodies out of sight and trust the fellow car guys.

I came out from the bar one night, tried to start my 54 Buick which I was running without a hood. The engine just popped and backfired. I knew right then someone messed with it the ignition timing. Checked the wires, someone had switched them around. 18436572 and was up and running. I was pissed, but then there was my buddy across the street who was screwing with me. I felt pretty good b/c I diagnosed it and fixed it in a matter of minutes, ruining his fun.

  30. If the stuff is hand-tight, it may end up walking off.
How about just loc***e or torque stuff down?? I mean, who the heck brings a wrench or screwdriver to a bar or restaurant?
