I just saw a Daimler Hemi engine for sale in England and I was wondering if anyone's ever imported something like that to the US?
    Duties, cost, how etc????
    Thanks a bunch.

the real tuners, and by that i mean the ones without wings, gay graphics, etc, and are as serious about their cars as we are about ours, do it all the time. it is such a big thing that several businesses exist that specialize in importing engines, so businesses like that might be able to help you, or offer advice.

Dont know about going UK -> US but US -> UK works like this...

take price of item + shipping = A
    A + 10% = B
Now add sales tax ( we call it VAT, currently 17.5% ) = C

C is what you'll end up paying. Oh and air freight would cost a fortune. It would appear that the cheapest way to do this kinda thing is to rent a container and ship that, you can get 3 cars in a container.. maybe find some E-Types/Pops ( Sorry, anglias.. ) etc and sell em on ?
It'd probably still be cheap to find an old jag/daimler over there and yank the engine.. AFAIK the XJ6 cars used basically the same engine as the E-Type etc, just tinkered with through the years, same with the v12 I think ?
Im sure Mart can verify that.
Pretty much all of our suppliers ship from the west coast, but this company bought my car in from Houston http://www.kingstown-shipping.co.uk I think they deal with other East coast ports so send them a mail if you do end up getting this engine...

Yeah, I know of a guy in the Pacific Northwest who imports containers of Aussie crossflow Ford sixes, along with other specialty parts. Shipping by boat is not terribly expensive.

One thing, though. When I bought my Aussie Ford 2V head & manifold, I had to have it shipped to broker at a port terminal in Mobile, and then when it arrived, I had to contact customs to inspect and release the crate. Not a big deal, just procedure. You could probably have that engine shipped to Jax or Tampa and do the same thing. Customs has a small fee, and the broker does, also. $$$ [IMG]

    Later, Kinky6.

Iv got a Hemi in my shop that Steve from the Limeworks has bought, he’s going to ship it back to LA some time with a couple of cars.
Maybe you could tie something up with him to get it shipped with his stuff then get it down to you.
If it ain’t to far away and we could work out the money thing I would be happy to pick it up for you.

Nads, I know a guy in Dover, he buys and sells vintage Race cars and parts.
He might be able to help you out.
If buying that Daimler engine means you are going to pull the pre X-flow out of your Capri, I would be very interested in that as a spare for my Mallock...

Y'know it's just an idea in my head. That 2.5 Hemi's a compact little sucker and I know Kev(Kapri)Rooney did a transplant in a Consul Capri in the 70s.
Metalshapes that pre x-flow in my Capri runs absolutely great and it's a GENUINE GT too.
It'd be kinda crazy to flip the hood and see the quizzical looks on folks faces.
BTW, that engine's in the two month old issue of Custom Car. For all I know it could already be sold.

Nads if thats a nice engine, thats even better...
And if you need it yourself for a couple of years more thats OK too.
I hope I will own my Mallock for the rest of my life, so I am in no hurry.
It has a X-flow in it right now, and that is not correct for the year, but it will do for now.
Long term plans are a Steel bottom end Formula 2 spec Twin cam, and it will take years to find and pay for the parts to build one...
If and when you are willing to get rid of your Pre X-flow, that could be the perfect engine to use untill my Lotus pipe dream comes true.
Depending on how you would do your conversion, I would be interested in the Tranny and the Diff too.
