I came up with some info and a June 55 R&C with an article on it thru my last thread. Now I'm hopeing on some 1st hand info. There must be some old Ohio guys on here that actually saw it in action. Those old R&C pictures don't scan very good , but if I can get a couple to come out half *** good I'll post them. Thanks Bob
this Arfons "sidewinder" was at the 1955 ATAA "World Series of Drag Racing". oldebob, I don't know if this is the car your thread is about and I don't mean to hijack your thread. But, just to see who is paying attention, other than "oldebob", how about a little history test? Oh, the picture is 54 years old and the photographer was a little shaky. TEST what was ATAA? where was the 1955 ATAA "World Series of Drag Racing" held? what kind of motor is in the "sidewinder"?
Yes thats the one I was looking for. Thanks for posting. I can answer the easy part of the question. The eng is 6 cylinder Ranger aircraft eng from WW2 PT19 trainer. These were real common in race cars after the war, but Arfons are the only application I've seen that runs the engine "upside down" the way it was in the airplane. In the picture the lettering is on the crankcase. Also they used a centrfical clutch in the Sidewinder. Anyone else out there that can help on this?
geez oldebob, you made it too ez, of course, you would know. It would have been interesting to see what kind of replies would have been posted. OK cl*** back to figuring out "g***ers", "A/FX" etc.
