Wrap the trans in a plastic garbage bag, drop it into a big tupperware type of container. Spray a bunch of aerosol expanding foam into the container and put the lid on it. The foam will expand and fill the container and that trans won't move inside of it no matter what happens.

I've shipped at least 10 manual trannys by UPS in the last few years.Just a plywood base with a couple of 2x4's under it so a hand truck can be slid under to move it.No real crate, just some "roll bars" made of wood held with screws and glue.Think of the guys who have to move it,the driver and loading dock workers, leave an area so he can get a good handhold on the heavy package.Be less likely to be thrown around.UPS didn't cause any damage, they all got to where they were going.Last one was a A833 4 speed that weighed 105 pounds,NY to Washington State, about 90 bucks.

That crate really should be on a pallet. Some of these terminals freight goes thru are about the length of a football field and some bigger. You think the guys going to pickup that tranny and carry it all the way across the terminal and put it in another trailer? Hell no! Its getting slid up on the forks of his lift with possibility to fall off while he's driving.

As noted. Put it on a pallet. As noted, if you can get it picked up at a business, it's cheaper.

I've shipped a few. I put them on a pallet and then wrapped them in many layers (tightly) with plastic wrap. They've all arrived safely.

The cheapest and easiest was by frieght truck picked up at my buddies garage. (which was great as the tranny was already there) This was a few years ago but it was less than $100.

  9. If you ship via trucking company, Tell them it is new. Because if they have to replace it, it cheaper to replace a current piece then to find a old replacement. Shipping rates reflect the age of the piece. Ship it, in a enclosed crate

We had 2 trans damaged by UPS over the holidays so went to a poly trans box for shipping and include a return tag. Customer just removes trans puts box back together and returns same. Dam site easier than wasting the S-10/ Camero trans which are getting harder to find. Also seems like it's alway the shippers fault and never UPS.

Shipped a Ranger 5 speed to PA. Built a box around it, bolted the bell housing to the end and trans mount to the bottom. It was huge and heavier than hell as it included the bell. Shipped UPS, about 100 bucks. The box arrived looking just like it did when I shipped it. I know because I saw it 3 months later.

I really think a lot of problems are due to either crappy crating or not securing the trans to the container. Strapping it to a pallet is prolly as good as anything.

That's one thing about an open pallet vs a box; if you box it they're going to stack other shit on top of it.

  15. Those cardboard crates are titties! I had a T5 shipped to me from a guy in AZ. I kept the crate. A non WC T5 sits in it now, waiting on the day it will be rebuilt.

  16. Had several 833's shipped to me.
The only problem has always been poor packaging.
The tranny's never got hurt but the boxes looked like crap.
Never use peanuts inside a box to ship something heavy,,,,it looked like it was snowing,,,LOL.
Anyway,,UPS brought them to me for under a 100.
One came from Arizona,,for about 75 bucks, and the other from Florida,,for about 85 bucks.
    Good transactions either way.
