I wood like to see pictures of a top hood stapped on with leather straps or belts. I am running only the part of my hood on my 29 Sedan and have thought of holding it on with the strap style latches that Limeworks sells but with out the spring deals. I have thought of just using leather belts. Any one have any pictures of any thing like this? Lets see em!!!

No. I was thinking of using leather straps for my side windows on the sedan. As kind of a low dollar but simple styled window latch.

This is kinda what I had in mind but without all the springy do dads, and simple belt buckle latches.

Hey Monkeybiker, where'd you get those straps? Were they custom made, were they surplus from something? I want a set of those for my T. Fill us in, buddy.

  8. Straps were from a belt/horse harness supplier, I punched some 3/8" stainless eyelets in each end. The sprung hold downs are just some I had lying around origin unknown, drilled n tapped the frame.
I'd do it different if I ever redo it, and make the hold downs quick release as they dangle into the wishbones & need unbolting to run without the bonnet.

Why would ya' go through all that trouble when it looks like ya' could go between the individual header pipes  ?

Was this car designed in France and built in England?

The idea looks French and the quality looks English.

  10. Seem to recall the manifold was a casting? Certinly there were no gaps between the individual runners. No matter - I agree it was crazy - crazy enough for me to take the picture...

I'm using a Limeworks kit that had everything but the belts which you can get from any department store.

Check out old Jed Clampet's ride. In the Beverly Hillbillys move they used big old belts to hold the hood on. I remembered them because I thought they looked really cool. In the action shots they show the truck at speed and the hood looked plenty stable. Just a thought.

Oh man I love your car...even the smiley face. I have been thinking of building something like that for a long time...even started gathering parts. Very cool.

I made these...using them on my '31. Got the belts at Dollar General, had the bolts, the springs came from a resto company in Reno, Nevada.

    The Aston is a racecar.
The strap goes around the exhaust to make it faster to unclip the strap and get it out of the way and also easier to reinstall it correctly!

Look at the sweep on that axle and the big mechanical brakes...very cool car.

Here are some pics of mine,
I run a full hood in the winter, it is from a 31 chevy, so I had to modify it.
I made it into a one piece top, so I also got rid of the hinges.

anyhow here are my straps, from a horse tack supply near my house.
may not be what your looking for, but they work great for me.

    Pardon my French! Hahahaha...

I said, the belt was most likely put where it was purely for esthetic reasons. From the side view it would be evenly spaced and it would still make no difference in how fast the car could be serviced.
    Speed and beauty working together!

    BTW...I don't speak French...but I do speak "Babelfish" translater!!! ;) :)

I think the belts came from a harness supply. The spring-loaded br*** rings that secure the ends are available from Snyder Antique Auto Parts (T and A stuff, located in Ohio).

Redbeard, Do you have a bigger (or at least wider) picture of your hood? :)

  29. Ya' got me :) . I recognized several words but couldn't put it all together in a way that made any sense!

Years ago I raced dirt modifieds in Quebec Province, they even announced the entire nights racing program in French. Some of the best racing memories I have. This doesn't include anything about the women ;) .

Then I worked for a French company for 27 years  .

Hahahahaha...yeah, I'm not surprised you couldn't get sense from the words!
I think Babelfish works with some secret WW2 code or something...!
You want jibberish you should try to translate the French back to English thru B-fish. I had to remember what I wrote...the translation was brutal.

The Quebecer's sure love their racing don't they? We get coverage of the dirt Mods and Rallying on our local French channels.
    VERY compe***ive!!!

I know exactly what you mean about Euro-French engineering though...worked on Renault warranty repair for several years!!!
The thoughts of Fuego folding sunroofs STILL haunt me! Hahahaha...
I had a friend who bought one new and had the roof repaired at least 4 times in the first 2 years. Basicly he'd open it once or twice in May, it would break and all we could do was tape it shut. The parts wouldn't come in for it till Sept when he didn't need it open anymore!!!
Warranty finally ran out and he siliconed it shut! LOL

But think of some of their Racing efforts...current right back to pre-war.
They CAN do it when they want to. ;)
