Curious if anyone is going to the Lowrider Show at the Puyallup Fairgrounds this weekend? Pretty big deal, super excited. I'll be there with Jade.... IMG_2723 by A.D.D. posted Jan 30, 2024 at 6:52 PM IMG_5085 by A.D.D. posted Jan 30, 2024 at 6:52 PM
The lowrider shows are a whole different ballgame than regular car shows. They used to have one in Yakima that drew a lot of cars but since they closed Yakima Speedway and sold off the land for industrial use. I never went to that one because their ticket price for spectators was so high.
Wasn't too bad Mr48, $60 bucks to register (includes tickets). Put on by Lowrider Magazine... BIG shows usually. I've been to the one in Portland. Pretty sure this is the first time in Puyallup!
Should be pretty cool at the Fairgrounds. LOVE that place for car shows. As far as "Lowriders" go... there is a pretty fine line between Lead Sleds and Lowriders. They kinda blended in the mid 60's. especially Bellflower/ Compton area. My '52 is fairly stock, but I have a louvered hood and 1954 Chev grille I need to fit. Bill Hines was pretty instrumental in fitting "lifts" (hydraulics) to cars in SoCal in the late 50s/ early 60s. Beyond that, Larry Watson influenced Lowrider paint for DECADES. While the tiny wheel, chromed out Impala's are not 100% my cup of tea... I really appreciate the bridge between the traditional Kustoms, "Bombs", and crossover stuff. (I drive the wheels off my '52... final vision will likely be just outside of "HAMB Friendly" 1966 or so). Plans are: Nosed/ Decked, louvered hood, 1954 chevy grille, lip welded on the edge of the hood, bumpers pulled in, frenched headlights and taillights, Merc teeth on the 1/4's, Bill Hines frenched antennas, lowered on 14" Astro Supremes with pinners, and 1965 T-Bird interior. I have most all the parts... just need some shop time. This is one of my favorite "Kustom" 52-54 Fords:
