I am planning out my 4" channeling job of a 29 Model A tudor and was hoping someone had some photos of the subframe they built for the their channel job. I would like to see some photos and advise as to what material to use, how you attached it to both the body and frame. There must be some picture out there. This is kind of a TECH question in reverse!

Cool - I’m planning the same thing – 4” channel on a 29’ tudor. My largest issue is cutting down the radiator, I bought an Afco and I haven’t asked them yet if they’ll cut it or if I have to get another one. [IMG] Also, I’m going to have to radius the wheel wells – the rearend’s too narrow. Post some pics when you start cutting !!

Hey Levis pardon the shitty photos.
I had no floor or rockers on my '34 Ford body which may or may not have been an adavantage.
I welded my body right to the frame after I got the doors and cowl working right. These welds were later removed, they were only there to keep the body stable during the floor building process.
I channeled the car slighty more than the width of the deuce frame.
I built sub floor bracing from 1x1/4" clothing rack tubing which was free, free is good.
Once I built some some triangulated members I welded the rockers in. All the while making sure the doors were operating OK.
Also I drilled holes in the sub frame to match the body mount holes in the frame.
After that I built the floor out of 16ga steel. This stuff is heavy and strong but it's a bitch to cut. I used a torch to rough cut then ground it down to size.
Cardboard patterns are THE best way to go.
BTW, I got my body situated before I made the engine mounts, steering etc.
The car's a tad tight because of the heavy channel and even heavier chop, but if you break up your trips into one hour increments it ain't too bad.

Best of luck to you, please post some pics.

and this shows (if you can make it out) the channel.

I bent up some heavy gauge Z metal and rockers and welded the old body and new floor to that with no sub frame.

Ditto yours, 60s style. You've got one of the baddest rides around, I love your car. She's gotta look all her own, and I'm not kissing yer' ass either.

I chopped my "A" 2 1/2" and it's slightly channeled (3") because I built my own chassis as to NOT have to do such a severe channeling job, makes for alott of room inside this way.

    yes,

good eye, with a chop and channel and section I was looking for something thin in the seat and they were the first really thin ones I found.

sitting in it my ass is about an inch off the floor.
