I recently purchased an oversize Moon tank that Dean Moon made for his engine dyno. Its about 39 inches long x 10 inches wide.

I got it from a family in California who purchased the dyno from Dean directly in the late 70's / early 80's for their shop and have a signed receipt to prove it. They modified the dyno and removed the tank for something better suited for their set up. The tank was put in storage for almost the last 40 years in a parts room at their shop. Crazy stuff!

I am wondering if anyone has a picture of the dyno in use at Dean's shop. Would love to see the tank in use. Cool history.

Putting this in my 32 project.

    Thanks!
    Jerry

Jerry that's a very fitting addition to a build that just keeps getting better in your shop with the built in vintage atmosphere.

I have done a bit of snooping but so far have come up dry.

    Great story and tank.
Your switch panel is perfect, as is the gauge spacing. Please tell us about the Empire State looking speedometer..

Some info from the family about the tank...

    Hey Jerry ,
ok so my Uncle, Alan Welch, had a engine balancing business named Automotive Balancing Service which goes back to the 50's in Ca. His Partner Richard Bauman also had a mail order engine shop named Speed O motive which was sold to George Ullrich in the early 90's. So My uncle purchased the dyno From Dean Moon so he could test some motors that they would be selling through Speed O Motive. this was in the late 70's and I remember that dyno room and that old tank with several others set up there. I was about 10. I will try to track down some old photos but to be honest don't know if we have any. To bad cause that would be great all around. So the mail order shop was sold and both Alan and Richard have passed on. Years ago that dyno was parted out as it was old school stuff by then. The tank was all that remained from that program. My pops has been cleaning out some stuff from his shop/man cave and yea now it's going to a great home.
    cheers

  10. I like that tank! I had it bought off eBay but the deal went squirrelly (an eBay issue.) Enjoy it!

Then came today and it's huge. It tucks in nicely though right behind the seats like it was made to go there. Glad it arrived in one piece

So aside from being a major period correct addition I see a side port that you can run your filler pipe to. That way you retain that Moon reference on the Cap. Looks definitely at home in there. The support references will be somewhat visible which is nice also.
