Anybody ID the steering wheel? That would narrow down the year of the pic. I'd say 60-62 photo?

Engine is the earliest version of the Olds 303 with the 49-50 short distributor

is that a roadster or a coupester?

It is a coupester, and has 62 plates....and the steering wheel is VW bug that is 1960 or newer with that chrome horn ring.

The Kustom site says it's a 1960 Olds but it is not. It is a 303...49 or 50, but most likely a 50 that had the bell to fit the Cad trans.
I am baffled on the newer valve cover pattern like a 59 up has, but the head ports look? like 303??

I'm not quite as enamoured with it as the OP, but, well yea, I guess I can kinda dig it. At least its not another black flathead deuce highboy with guides and 16" wheels...

  17. Well I was going to give info that I could see but I think the article pretty much covers it.

With those hard rubber pie-crust slicks and the 1/4 mile speed and ET. he had trouble handling the torque of the big Olds. With today's softer compounds, and some chassis/gearing fine tuning, that roadster would run low 12's, maybe even high 11's.

Great little hotrod, got to love it,only bothersome thing I see its upper rad hose hump being a steam bubble trap,so would need carefull bleeding often. Always if you can have your rad psi cap be at the top of water cooling, not below highist point.

i just love how short it looks, but sectioned and shortened would make it tiny!

119 miles per hour must have been a thrill in that little thing

engine looks like it started as a late 371 to me

I think I would like it better with the original fender cutout filled and smoothed, and maybe another 6" of 1/4 panel in front of the back wheel. I don't hate it by any means, more of a near miss to me. And yes, that must have been an E-ticket ride at the track!!

Just sayin', if you shortened that much without the section, it would look awkward as hell...
I haven't really looked closely at these photos in years, its starting to grow on me all over again...How about an updated mid sixties version, with a ram-log BBC, white headers and torque-thrusts...

Ever drive or ride in an 87 inch wheelbase 'hot rod'? White knuckles abound.
In the '60 Bucket T rage, some pals built what I called 'Shorties': (short T's)

Melvin George threw a '17 Dodge bucket together on a pair of Model A rails, (frame came out of a wrecked Model A coupe: Melvin cut the bent 20" off the fronts, suicide tubed and set it on a 'bulldog' Model A Dago axle, wheelbase was 87". Buick nail, Buick Roadmaster box, Olds rear. Beer keg tank, he and friends threw it together at Goodies Speed shop, in a week!
    '32 steering, squirrelly...Scary.

Gary Faylor was another madcap rodder, build some fast stuff...he found a T bucket, ('21) put it on A rails, another short coupled ride...283 Chevy, 3 speed, Olds rear, 89" W.B.
I never rode in Gary's T. It got real sideways outa the gate, nobody would race him.
A ride in his previous 'A' pickup was enough for me...96" W.B., short bed, 301" Chev, Muncie 4 speed, Chevy rear (4.11) Wow, did that come outa the hole...sideways...

'Hemi Henry' Rapheld built a '17 Dodge on stock rails, 'Hiboy style'...392 "Chizler", '37 Cad box, Olds rear...another 89" wheelbase. Another scary one...we raced a new XKE on second St., San Jose, and Henry got 'loose' at 100, up the curb at a corner house, scraped the front porch, around the corner (still on the lawn!) and back out onto the side street...finally slowed down, MorDrop axle was bent way back on the drivers side, so were restricted to left turns only. About 5 'U' turns plus, (3/4 of a circle left to turn right; us geniuses figured that right out)
After the 'lawn sprint', I woulda walked, but it was 8 miles or so...

Roth's "Tweety Pie" was yet another one, although originally built by someone else...I could never get my head around that short wheelbase! (pre 'funny car') Some guys loved 'em, I hated 'em.
There was an old man with a Model A roadster pickup that used to do parades in Santa Clara. No bed, rear was shortened 2 feet. Had heavy casters on the rear frame stubs. He'd goose it in low, the roadster would 'loop' onto the rear casters, he'd idle around like that, steering with separate rear mechanical brake rods attached to levers, Dune buggy style...then reverse, and front would spring down, with a bounce. Big applause.

My Mexican pals called any car a 'short'. Never figured that one out, either...
