I was born in '75. I can remember my 5th grade school picture in which I had on the Van Halen t-shirt from the album cover 1984. You know, the one with the baby w/ angel wings, smoking a cigarette. I probably even had on the parachute pants as well!

That is the story he is telling in front of the car to the reporter in the second video I linked in the OP. Sounds like something he'd do.

This car was in several news spots and several videos. He can be seen in it, on it, by it, for many interviews over a period of several years so it was something he kept close to him and drove the piss out of all the time. With his money, that's saying something. Out of all the stuff he owned in the 80's this car always showed up everywhere he went. That's what made me start looking for more info on it.

Diamond Dave lived one of my lives complete in one day and does it 365 days a year. Being Dave ain't a bad thing. Out of anyone who has fun in life, he ranks up there as one of the few who have loved every minute of it and still do. If you get him off the spotlight and actually talk to him you realize this cat has some deep thoughts, he's not stupid by any means.

"Master of the Flying Guillotine" and ***less pants........

In a world of Lambo's and exotic sports cars in the '80's, and the most flambouyant out spoken party boy of them all has, for the most part, a *****in' traditional custom.......when it wasn't cool.

    David LEE Roth......

Ha I just found his booking agent, apparently for enough money he'll come to you and your old lady's wedding and sing ice cream man. :D http://www.grabow.biz/Contemporary/DavidLeeRoth.htm

The way I see it, dressing up like that is no different than a "greaser" costume. They both take a lot of hair product and a need to be seen as "unique"....

Chad, maybe you can get DLR to do a celebrity appearance at the Pileup. That would rule.

He had the car built to impress Valerie, but Eddie ended up with her anyway.

  18. In the video I posted it looks like Dave had the stock steering wheel (thank god) so maybe the pics of the car at that show with the lame steering wheel were pictures of the clone that was also built by **** & Keith Dean.

  19. I'd like to see more pic's of the tub from the Hot For Teacher video as well...

IF- Michael Anthony ( or Eddie/Alex ) ever had ONE regret in life, it would have to be wearing that suit and gloves while showing the world that no matter how much choreograhpy is invovled, they still couldn't dance.

i don't think any of them are known for there dancing. i think it was supossed to look "gong show'ish". they did do a good job of doing what ever the hell they wanted though! and were celebrated for doing so!

Actually, I read somewhere it was built by a gentleman and later purchased to go on tour with the band. They wanted to drive it. So in very short order, it had to be transformed into a modern day driver. That`s why you see a completed car getting a ch***is swap.

I remember that in an old Rod Action (my first subscription, well before driver's licence), there was an article about, I think, a 46-8 Ford homemade tub, that was built after David Lee Roth called a guy and offered real cash for his custom. I would guess this article to be around 1984-5.
Also, in the song "Panama", DLR references, "Hot shoe, burning down the avenue". Either the Merc tub, or a history with shoeboxes.
