I know it's easier and in many ways makes sense to put cable linkage on my dragster project, but I'm trying to make the car as period as possible, but nothing I see around the track now has mechanical linkage. I can imagine that it's a bell crank setup, but if any of you have photos of dragsters or gassers with solid linkage and would care to post them, I'd appreciate it!

    Thanks!

I have pictures of my linkage set up that I used on my hilborn stack set up on my Lyndwood dragster before I went to a blower. I just have to scan them then I will post them up later.

    local car,

'don't have any close up shots, but it's set up pretty much like the one FrozenMerc posted above

I think you mean the linkage from the throttle pedal. This is how my buddy did it on a 55 Chev Gasser.

Yup! Want to see about solid linkage from the pedal to the throttle shafts. Thanks guys! Shadow- I'll keep an eye peeled for your scans! Paul - nice setup and sweet car, but it's still got the cable action.

To do this style linkage the right side shaft must be long enough so that the link rod does not have too much foward angle (an extention might have to be made)and possibly a rear support for the shaft, the action is going to have to push up in order to open the blades. If the blades open(from drivers possision) clockwise then the link rod will have to mount to the left of the shaft (oppisite for CCW)

I had hilborns in the 60s and most of us used moon hydrolic linkage it cost 50.00 then. I see it on ebay once and awhile.

Gary- unfortunately, the hydraulic linkage isn't legal nowadays, and I want to be able to run the dragster at my local drag strip which has NHRA sanction.

I could not find the pics I wanted to scan but I run my linkage off my pedal direct to a bell crank mounted off of my front fire wall top frame rail. the pedel pushs the lower bottom rod forward and the top pulls a solid shaft backward. this actuates another bell crank that was mounted off the side of my valve cover by a stud and anchored under one of the center manifold bolts. that bell crank transitioned to the metering block arm in the center of the manifold. I made a crude drawing with windows paint to illustrate it, hope it helps

when i went to a blower I had to change the set up, I wanted a Hydraulic set up but could not find one that still worked or was affordable (NOT). I used my buddy bobs bell crank set up on his blown hemi Lyndwood as a guide & made one from scatch to mount off of the back of my rear blower cover, it works & looks period for me. just keep stuff straight with no binding and make sure ou have some sort of positive stop to keep you from going past center on the bell crank and getting your linkage bound up.

I hope this photo makes it onto the site. It is an oldie for a Y-block Ford I have. I hope it helps.

Thanks Normbc9! Nice setup! I'm actually looking for photos of the solid linkage that goes between the gas pedal and the manifold on a dragster. Some of the guys have posted some neat stuff to look at!

My car has a Fuller-style midplate, so the bellhousing is fully inside the driver's compartment. I'll have to mount it in a similar way to Bruce Dyda's setup, with the bell crank on the inside, and then slot the midplate, and go to the other bell crank by the manifold. I've got ano old Hilborn setup with the hoses and nozzles on the outside, so I'll have to figure out the linkage routing so it doesn't foul any of the hoses.

my first injection was an early hilborn as well with the nozzles & hoses on the outside so I had to make that perch set up anchored off of my valve cover high enough to clear the hoses. our gonna have to do some fancy bell crank work with your set up. I lucked in as my lyndwood was set up with the fire wall well behind the engine / bell housing mid point.
    good luck with it!
