So anyway. What are your compound reading? Sounds like you are running around my simple question. If you cant say or dont know why not just say. One piece construction, so what! You think my tire comes in more than one piece. I have alot of my items out there, especialy to HAMB members, and I do not have any problems with them coming apart since we have been in it. I am sure Don appreciates the name droping. I met Don at the March Meet this year, even donated a set of tires to his museum. He was thrilled, never seen them before, I am sure we will do buisness. First of all I have no problem with your product!!! It is dam nice.I never bad mouth the competition. You should know that! I am just saying you know alot less than you think about tires. Do you even know how a tire is built? Or the difference between HOT and COLD capping? I just think without you having control of the manufacturing you really are not in control of the product. Tell Don Garlits Hi!
ooh! oooh! Tire guy fight! Tire guy fight!!!! (how smug... ) Yeah... I'm guessing that leaving tires in the hands of Mickey Thompson is probably safe... From the outside looking in, I've already heard some people talking (on the HAMB) about tires coming apart. I plan on racing my car, hard. I don't need tires shreading at 130mph. The very name 'recapped tires' makes me twitchy and nervous. Sorry. They are a nice looking tire, though.
I think the issues were before these guys took over. I dont think I've heard any problems, on here, since.
We also capp Vintage GoodYear Blue streak specials for Trans Am racing.I have a local racer running a 65 Shelby with them all away around. Runs 140+ MPH on them. Came in second last weekend behind 911 at Portland International Raceway's 2 1/2 mile road corse. Says they out perform the tire when new.
Radir guy. any new tire sizes coming out in the future for those of us that like tall narrow slicks to fit somewhat under a fender. I like the 7.75 but wish it it was taller... just wondering..
All the original dragsters and gassers used recaps, so I figured I'd try them. I have 3 sets of Hursts tires that I use on the roadster 7" dirt tracks & 7" cheaters on steelies and 8.5" cheaters on mags depending on the look I want. They work great for street driving and on the track. I ran 12.80 @ 104 mph on the 7" cheaters with a 1.9 60 ft time. They have been on the car for 3 years and they don't have any excessive wear for the abuse I've thrown at them. I've bought products from both Cody and Jason and there both good people to deal with. For me it comes down to what size tire I need and if I want a wide white as to who I buy from. If I was building a 10 second car, I'd run a modern cheater or slick and forget about the pie crusts.
Ooops.... Maybe it was taboo to mention Hurst in a Radir thread. Sorry... But I'm interested in running a set of either Radir or Hurst. But I'm only interested in them for the look, like I think a lot of other people. I think Both Radir and Hurst makes great looking tires but there are some pros and cons. I'd like to see them stand next to each other, mounted on the right wheel, just to see which pleases my eye the most. //Magnus
I ran a pair of Radir cheaters on my coupe and they were the best thing since sliced bread! I couldn't tell the difference between standard tires. Even on the slippery wet streets of Ventura during the night parties at last year's Primer Nat's they held up bitchen, and the car had a nasty engine to boot!
We do get requests from time to time, but the thing is the molds are very very very expensive, we have been throwing the idea around for years, but how many guys are still running a 16x10, 16x12? It just dosent cross over too well, how many 12.00-16"s would we sell ya know? like say an 8.20 that will fit a 15x7" up to a 15x10" For Right now, We need to concentrate on making your guys happy, perhaps reworking the 7.75" to make it a true 29" tall and non dot true slick tread. vs 26"/27" that it stands now, This "Wheel salesman" did LOTS of homework with the design and look of this tire, to look cool and perform even better, Theres only so much you can get away with to get a dot stamp and not look like a bald snow tire, and still stay period nostalgic. Many people either love the crap out of these tires are cant stand them, they perform unbelievably, You should see them on a car, people flip out and want to touch them when they see them. What im trying to get at is that its very hard in this buisness to make everyone happy! We get alot of requests for 16" slicks,14" slicks and a taller 7.75-15" but nothing on the drawing board just yet, but you never know what we will pull out of our sleeves!
I'd order a set today. I run a set of early Halibrand 16x10's and I am running a tire that isn't right for the era. But, no one has given me an option. I'm not dogging anyone's product but I will not run a recap. Makes no diff who makes it.
You are 100% correct, the cost of tooling, R&D, molds, and up front manufacturing costs are out rageous today. Thank You for making what you have, we should be happy.
Don't get me wrong.....I am happy that someone is finally making some 15's. But, it's kinda like going to the swimming pool and you're the only one without a swimsuit. Not as much fun watching everyone else. Anyone have some 5 on 5 Halibrands in a 15" they wanna part with?
I just want to make clear that I have no problem with Radir, M/T or their product. I just want to see the bashing of recap's limited in its contex when discussed. We meaning Dad and I have over 35 plus years in the heavy truck recap industry. These tires are not the same construction as a heavy truck tire but the process of capping is similar. We are in this for the long run "forever" and will always have quality our first concern. We have had a near perfect track record since we took over HURST, Like I say Ron Hurst made his name with Circle Track tires dominating racing on the West Coast, and I would like to see more respect to what we offer. I am not saying I dont get respect from my peers but respect for the recap tire itself. Our tires are not "cheap" old wore out truck tires. In other parts of everyday life we rely on recap tires to make the world go around, Parcel Fleets like UPS,USPS,Heavy Trucking,All Major Airline's,TAXI, Heavy Equipment, even Super Bike Racing "Travis Pastrana", Won the Super Bike Championchip on recap motorcycle tires last year. I thank everyone who has purchased from us, and I stand commited in making each customer happy long after there purchase. Thank You Cody Adams
Cody, please don't take this as bashing. I am just not too comfortable with recaps. I guess one of the main reasons is that here in Oklahoma where it is hot in the summer, I see at least 10 caps per day on a daily commute. They are laying on the side of the road all mangled. I am not a tire guy nor do I have any knowledge of the process, but I just don't want to lose a cap at over 120 mph..... I have heard that you guys have resolved a lot of the quality control issues, which is a good thing, people do talk. Anyway, please don't take this as a jab. Root
Are either one these guys "Alliance" members or do the give a discount? I was thinking "HAMB" drags and slicks. Just a crazy thought. Chris Nelson Kansas
I have the Radir 10.00 tires on the rear of my Anglia Ute. They are mounted on 15X10 ETIII wheels. I had Radir put two extra grooves in each tire for better rain traction. It was cheap and it didn't take any longer for them to add the grooves.
