Before you think I'm crazy, I'll just let you know I bought a 460 EFI powered 88 F250 farm truck for cheap and just had a thought cross my mind to stick it in the 54, or put the 54 on the truck ch***is and cut it into a Ranchero! Thoughts...Please use kind words LOL tnrotter
humm, intresting brain thoughts. sounds like some of mine. well id have to think theres gona be some steering box clearance problems. might have to change the box to a rack. thats the only thing i can think of but im also not familiar with a 54. im thinking of my 55.might have to modify the trans x member also. and if putting that much engine up front youd want power steering, and power disk brakes
I had a 1970 , 460 Cobra Jet that I was going to build up to around 550 hp and put into my 1937 Plymouth p/u and have some fun with it . Well I sold the truck to by a 1949 Ford coupe . I was going to put it into that one but figured I would rather dive the car allot more than with the 460 ****ing up all that very costly fuel plus only getting around 7 mpg if I kept my foot out of it . Yea right ! Anyone that has that amount of HP & torque isn't going to drive it easy to safe gas . It will fit but you will have to upgrade that front end to support 800+ lbs of an engine plus if you are lucky , you might get 8 mpg ! Just can't have fun like that . You will also need a C6 or 4 spped trans then you will have to get a Ford 9" rear and have it cut down to fit under your car . Heck I would get a nice 302 or 351w and set that right in there with no problems and have a lot more fun with that engine than the 460 . Yes that damn big block can crank out some really high HP & torque but it cost a lot more money to build that 460 that any small block Ford engine ! If you are wanting to build a drag car then go for it ! If not get a good sbf and have some fun . You can always get a nice 6cyl and build that one too . That will look really grade too under the hood ! Jim
I was just thinking out loud and dont have a 2wd C-6. I do however have another truck I bought cheap. It's a '86 F150 with a 5.0L EFI and an AOD automatic, definitely a more practical swap. I can part out and s**** whats left of the truck and have nothing in it. tnrotter
well thats alot more practical. very easy swap . you can use the truck motor mount if you dont want to buy new one , or if there not broke. are you gona leave it fuel infected or carb it? you can use alot of stuff outa that truck . the fuse box and headlight wiring harness.
Might as well leave it fuel injection, if its too tall for the 54, I could convert to the Mustang EFI, but otherwise I have like you said the wiring harness. Runs out great and has plenty of power. What oil pan do I need to use? tnrotter
The 460 is more of a work engine or a drag race engine . I have had 2 of the for drag racing and they are really sweet when done right ! M***ive torque and HP ! As for the 302 EFI & AOD , I would really consider that ! I would also take the wiring from the truck and rewire your entire car with that so you could keep the fuel injection . Fuel injection is really sweet and you can upgrade the throttle body and cam very easily and gets lots more torque & HP ! Also check to see what rear it has in it . A 9" rear will bring you some extra $$$$ too ! A Mustang oil pan should work ! Jim
No problem with the EFI clearing the hood I have seen several in person,if you search the web in Google images you can find pics of them in early Fords.I thinl Rebel Wire now has wiring kits for EFI swaps He is HAMB member glenn33 contact Him for info and advice, great bunch of guys wiring is all made in TN.
Was digging through old posts last night when lightening hit turned everything off. Found a post by JeffB2 that listed Anchor motor mount part#'s 2725 and 2726. This are available at Rockauto.com for $11 and $12 each plus about $11 shipping to my address. Oreillys wants $10 each more. The post said that these will space the motor up just a little and work well with the AOD as the original app was Mark VII. I know this is old info but if most of you are like me, it's sometimes hard to find info when you are looking for it. tnrotter
Those are the 2 engine mounts that I bought from Rock Auto for my 302 with c4 engine swap too . I haven't done the swap yet because I want to get the body work done first , then painted . That's was the cheapest place to buy the engine mounts that I could find . Jim
old ladys mad, Thanks for the pic. I think there is plenty of room for the truck upper intake and it has a dual throttle body that should let more air in. I ordered some intake and valve cover gaskets for the truck to work on getting it running better before I start the conversion and while I'm still using it to chase parts. tnrotter
The only thing I see is a possible clearance problem with ****** and the firewall. If it is a late model C6 they slope down from the top of the bell housing to the body whereas an early C6 has a round bell housing and it clears fine. I put a 390 and C6 in my 53.
The Fe seems to fit very well in just about any Ford for some reason . It's no harder than swapping a 302 in a Ford . Those 460 boat anchors just aren't worth the trouble unless you are building a big stroker motor for racing ! Been there and done that one already ! It's way cheaper to build a stroked 351w and a C4 and will run real strong too for a lot less money ! Jim
