im in the process of building a few schwinn cruisers, just curious if anyone else was into that kinda thing?
Just look under the HAMB logo on this page, there is a tool bar. Hit search and look for bicycles. I did a few posts, and will be doing more soon.
at one time I had what I would call a*****load of schwinn cruisers and parts. then I came to the realization that I do not restore them, I just collect the parts. so i sold them all but one. it's a 1949 with a springer and all the fixin's.... except the chainguard that I sold accidentally. some day I'll put it together... it's the same year as my car. don't see too many bicycle posts here...
I'm building up a 52' Red Phantom right now. I've always dug the early cantilever frame bikes (late Autocycles, B-6's, etc.) but the pre-55 Phantoms are my favorite! That being said, you should probably stay On Topic w/ the HAMB, get your Schwinn fix here: http://www.schwinnbike.com/heritage/forums.php jay
I've got my grandfathers's 1931 Schwinn. It's awaiting attention one of these days but it is still rideable. I drag it out once in awhile just for kicks.
I have an old Speedster. She's all original sace a three speed hub. Anyone in the Houston area, there is a Schwinn club that meets every Sunday morning in the Heights.
nothing better then a schwinn to bad the name has been drug down with junk at walmart! 57 black phantom and a 39 cycle truck
Hey, I see you are from Wa state. Do you know Gary John? Head of the Seattle vintage bicycle club. He has prob' the biggest collection of really cool vintage bikes. He restores them too. Very cool guy.
My brother has what he calls a "1957 swan neck tandem"? It holds two riders. Thats all I know...........OLDBEET
I've been collecting and restoring Schwinn Stingrays for about 12 years. Here's some of my collection. Gary
I have my brothers paper-boy bike. It's an early 50's Wasp. Looks just like PeeWee Hermans, but black. My dad put a Cycle-truck,gooseneck on it when he bought it,to get the bags up. I removed it and am looking for an original one. Also have a Hornet, early 50's too. They are unrestored. I kinda like the surviver look, you know, untouched. Whenever I ride the Hornet, people are always trying to buy it.
Well I love the old bikes, my dad has a 47 Schwinn al restored with the Whizzer conversion on it, i will try to find a pic to post on here. I cheated tho and bought a new Electra cruiser in candy red and pearl white. Very good quality bike compared to some of the new***** that walmart and Ctire sells. I would have restored one myself but i wanted to get one and ride right away as i wouldnt have time to restore with the hotrod i am tryin to build at the same time. A friend of mine is very much into restoring and some hotrodding of his bikes, I will get some pics and post them later too.
i've gone thru many hundreds of antique balloon tire bikes/ then the EXPERTS started showing up and took alot of the fun out of the hobby. now i'm just old and lazy and can just pedal enough to pop off the whizzer and i'm riden without effort
I'm into hot rod'd bikes too. Quick fix and they have stories just like the old cars we like. Anyway, here's mine. It's a 49 or 50ish straight bar bike, I love this one, it's a blast to ride and smooth. New Departure "disc" style brake doesn't seem to work very well (possibly historie's first ABS system?! ha). It has 24" x 3" wheels with Fatass Nerve tires. The rear, I laced up the old skip tooth New Departure black hub to accept the 24" rim. I'll get some better pics of the bike in a minute. Schwinn 67-9, cannot remember... Sold it to a great guy who loves it even more than I!
they were the brand name for montgomery wards dept stores most were rebranded bikes produced be the clevland welding company that produced roadmaster bikes among others
heres a few of mine, both are going to match, one for me, one for the little lady. however, the womens bike is going to have a springer. i was thinkng lite green primer on both of them
I used to build alot of bikes before i got my liscence. Once i could drive i got rid of all my bikes to make room for all my project cars, but i still kept one bike.
I have a '57 Schwinn Corvette. It's "shaved" (no decals) Black powder coat, medium front WWW, heavy duty size rear WWW and chrome fenders. It's missing the unobtanium front rack but it's got a Sturmey/Archer three speed-coaster brake rear hub. Not a restored garage queen, I ride it! I'm going to put some ape hangers on it soon because my 58 year old back is tired of leaning over to reach the original lower bars.
Me and the girlfriend have a schwinn tandem! we cruise that around town. picked it up in florida from some old guy who was gonna pitch it, totally awesome.
i just picked up a Sears Spaceliner for myself and a J.C Higgns for my wife. my 13 yr old has a Schwinn Fairlady.
I have a pretty nice '68 Schwinn Orange Krate that is original except for the paint. I also have a '68 or 9 N.O.S. (new old stock) Sears Screamer 3 speed muscle bike that I bought at a second hand store several years ago. It has never been ridden, and it is still new. It was a cheaper knock off version of the Schwinn Krate bikes. I have never seen another one like it. The guy I bought it from told me he bought it at an estate sale. The lady who owned the house where the estate sale took place told him that she bought it for her teen aged grandson to ride when he came to visit her. He was 16 when she bought it for him, and he never came to visit. He got drafted when he turned 18, he went to Vietnam and was killed. The bike never got ridden, and it sat in he garage for over 30 years. It is a pretty sad story, but I am preserving the bike for the grandson
