Finally getting back to father son project, a 64 impala, engine is done and transmission is done. About to put back together. Trying to decide on whether or not to use fuel injection over holley 600cfm carb on a 327 that has been bored .40 over has a balanced 350 crank and a comp cams 262 extreme energy cam with larger intake and exhaust valves fitted. Have an opportunity to buy a holley digital 700 cfm four barrel injction system for about $800.00 I live at 7500 ft and want the smoothest running most trouble free set up for family trips in this four door mild rod... I am shoe horning in a 700r4 Thanks Guacamole
I had the anolog one when the first came out. I put that on my '57 chevy. The dig system is much more developed than the anolog..i also think it was offered in 'closed loop' and 'open loop' configurations. If it's open, i belive you can adjust the perameters of the system with the computer suplied with the system (or a lap top, can't remember). If it's closed, it's self controlling through the ECM.. The closed loop system may not 'jive' with the mods you may have done to the engine, ie cam specs.. You may want to call Holley and find out if it will work well with your setup.. All in all, once you make sure it's compatible, it'll probably work fine.. But, a nice new carb will give you just as many mile's without the computer related hardware. I had my system on it for about 7 years..and it left me on the side of the road a few time's.. My elec fuel pump died, the TPS sensor stopped reading position, and the ECM **** on me.. Once the ECM went, so did the system.. But, like i said, i bought mine right when they came out so there may have been bugs at the beginning.. Good luck. Rat..
You see them at EBAY a good bit............CHEAP ! ! Makes me wonder............ I like a carb.........Holley or Edelbrock...
Thanks! Yea it is open loop and you can set power and torque parameters any way you like with my IBM laptop. The guy helping me install will tutor and ***ist in all I need. But I like carbs and wonder if maybe the newer road demon or if the latest Holley Street Avenger might be better. I live at 7500 ft and want the engine to pretty much take care of itself when going up and down. If I do the Q jet I need to step down a bit in jetting for here. I plan to take the family on trips with this rig wanting decent fuel economy and drivability. Thanks Again! Guacamole
A pal has the 4Di setup on his '66 Mustang. It was rough at first, but now that he has it dailed in it runs crisp and responsive like a new FI car. There is an aftermarket software program that will ****yze your data logs and tell you how to set the 4Di software parameters. It was pretty much a ****shoot until he got that software. Give it a go if you're into that kinda thing. Ed
