I have the chance to buy a crosley front stub with complete running engine, trans, etc.I want to build a little runabout to go from home to the shop which is 22 miles.I just want to title it to the numbers that i need to.I'm hoping i can use the engine numbers.I'm guessing i'll get pulled over and checked out by Mr.s Policeman since it'll be small, and no doubt odd looking. Thanks for any help.......Greg

  2. Missouri used the engine number through about '54 or 5. Maybe later than that but I know for sure up until '55.

I had a '57 Chevy that had 2 numbers one didn't match anything it had a later L-79 motor in it but the other matched the body/serial number.

They told me at the license place that one was the motor number but they also said you didn't see too many like that.

My '54 and '55 Fords were both titled off the engine number. That was a long time ago but I recall because I stuffed a later mill in the '55 and had a lot of problems, I ended up traveling with a paid noterized receipt for the mill and a rubbing of the number off the original also notorized.

My 49 Crosley has a VIN plate in the middle of the firewall - a two letter code (like CC or CD for early or late sedan) and 6 numerals.
