I searched prior T5 posts but didnt see anything regarding this question...Will a mustang T5 shifter fit on a camaro T5??....the reason I thought about this is they can be found cheaper due to higher demand plus the mustang shifters have the bolt on shifter stub which would make swapping in other handles a little easier instead of cutting and welding on the camaro shifter... I would also like to see any pics anyone has adapting a slave cylinder to a 403 bellhousing... Oh yeah, Will a T5 camaro clutch fork work on a 403 bellhousing?? Thanks in advance for any advice and help.... Randi
you can use an old style throwout bearing (and fork) on a t5, and to the best of my knowledge, the aftermarket shifters work on either rustang or bitchin' camaros, but not the s10 style.
The camaro shifter is "bent" 18* degrees due to the rotation of the tranny in the car. This could be a problem IF you use a camaro bellhousing.
Does the bend occur above the pivot point and therefore could be straightened or does the shifter come out of the unit on an angle?
Thanks for the replys...I plan on using a 403 bellhousing so I can run the trans straight up and not on an angle like the stock camaro set up is....My concern about the mustang shifter isnt the angle it's made on but if it will actually bolt to the camaro T5 and fit....If so I can take it from there to make my shifter handle....
Tommy - the bend is above the pivot - you can straighten it 40chev - I've not tried it, but I believe a Mustang shifter can be made to work on a Camaro T5. The Camaro/Firebird T5 has a square shifter box & the Mustang has a rectangular box. I *think* the rear two holes are in the same relationship to the pivot - so you'd only have to re-drill the front holes to fit the Camaro/Firebird shfiter box. Now, once again, I've never done this nor tried to mock it up and I don't have either T5 handy to check, but I think it will work...
Yeah, I got my Ford shifter for $5 on eslay, then you can redrill the pivot point and increase the height of the base to obtain a short throw, works like a charmhttp://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m177/49Cosmo/T-5Hybrid.jpg That's a bad pic. Here's another.......http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m177/49Cosmo/Threegenlengthdiff.jpg
Thanks Guys for the info.....After reading your replys I just bought an inexpensive mustang short thow of e bay with the shifter stops...it's probably nothing for serious racing but for my 40 it should be fine.....The thing I like about the mustang shifters is that it has the two bolts for the shifter so I can fool around with different lengths or style shifters without having to cut and weld like would have to be done with the camaro shifters.... I will be getting my 403 bellhousing today (another e bay purchase $38 shipped)....This will straighten the trans up...I'll just have to fab up a bracket to mount a slave cyl....I wish the stock camaro bellhousing had enough meat to re-drill the 4 mounting holes so I could straighten the trans up and retain the bracket for the slave.. Thanks again for the help....... I'll post some pics as I get this part of the project swapped around.... Gonna go work on the seat brackets and floor braces some more......
