I got a 22 model T roadster thats pretty much all original except for a high compression aluminum head. I'm trying to get it started. I think I got everything but the wiring sorted out. It doesn't have a starter. I bought a 6V battery and I can see where the previous owner had some small wires going to the running board, where I think he would hook up a small battery. I think I just need to know where to run the wires to, to get power to the coils. I just wanted to set it up to ***ist me in starting it. I found a wiring diagram on a T site, but found it to be confusing. I thought I wired it right, but it didn't seem to be getting any juice when I checked it with a circut tester. I just wanted to see if I can get it started and maybe practice driving it around the block a little. I eventually am going to make a rod and/or speedster out of it. Thanks
Hi katatonic mike. Is there any way you can put up some pictures or draw a diagram of where these two wires come out from on your T? So I can compare it to my running 26 roadster T. Hope I can help you. Dave
I don't know nuttin about T's, but there are two VERY different systems for cars that had batteries/starters and those that had no battery...I suspect you are looking at a non-battery car that had a battery put on the runningboard because the mag was tired and the owner couldn't swingit hard enough to start with the crank! In short, you're doomed! Go to the Model T encyclopedia on the MTFCA site. Or just hire a good parapsychologist.
My '12 has a 6volt battery, is helps crank starting it then you just flip the switch to magneto. It has been converted to electric lights and runs on a constant loss, but we don't run it at night much. Electricity scares me, but i'll try to help.
he,he, actually when I replace my wiring on my T, the whole wiring kit came in two zip lock baggies from Mac's Auto Parts. Not alot there to get confusing.
i know , i am a model t guy, and i couldn't type enough to cover all the possible issues related to anything in a model t ignition or wiring or not, i had one guy swore up and down that his was wired correctly and everything was fine, it turned out to be correct ,he had turned his mixture needle in so far it shut off the gas and was never gonna run, evry single car has it's own way of coming to life!!! and to find those settings and nuances ,well it is zen like!!! haha, that being said, with out pictures of the vehicle dont know if it has a switch in it, so many thing can be changed from 80 years the new owner ,never having seen a model t can only ***ume what is there has anything to do with the car , ,take a little more time and read about the wiring how it works ,the main parts to make the engine fire, many many sites on the model t and can check things out, , dont think you can just jump in and drive around the block, one i sold to a guy he had all the walk and all the talk about knowing model t's when he got in mine he asked why gas pedal was so hard to push and where was the shifter? he said he watched the walton's and they had a model t car?,hahah,,no it was a model A i told him, with some studying you should be able to chase the wiring and figure it out
