Ok....Here is a pic of it qualifying for the Gold Cup Race in 1959 at 129 mph, a new record.
Bill Stead driving. It took others 11 years to break that record.

Because this road race was one of the few that had no accommodation for spectators, other than those along the route, and therefore had a purity to the concept; when I was a young man I followed it avidly as best I could through the magazines. This post is interesting to read as I have always thought that those who participated, especially the drivers, were a breed apart, and the obstacle course the race was run over made it a test of will, and certainly an even more gruelling test for the machines. If, perchance, you pursue a restoration as a homage to those that are no longer around, please keep those of us who are interested in the know.

Years ago they sent me some videos, one was shot from the inside of a 1953 Oldsmobile that had just hit some burros, the car spun and was teetering on the edge of a cliff, some Mexicans ran up and climbed on the back of the car to keep it from going over, they were eventually able to save the car, all I saw of the incident in my rear view mirror was a burro flying thru the air kicking, yeah, I know unbelievable.

I was just looking at an enlarged picture of the yellow Lincoln and on its side it says El Toro Amarillo, so maybe somebody in Texas knows the car.

If it's solid metal, not too rusty or bent up, that sounds like a decent price, especially if it includes the ornaments trim & hinges.

I seem to remember it being yellow. But that was back in 09 or so that I worked that race. Looks like a cool find either way

I was entered in 2008, they wanted to make the historic part of it annually, I couldn't get the car put together in time and just went as a spectator. there may have been another Carrera Lincoln but it wasn't yellow.

The Pikes Peak Lincoln #101 was originally a movie car it was used in "Moonshine Highway" at that time it had a 455 olds engine, the car was built by Steve Lawrence in LA, then John Ward built it to the Carrera Panamericana rules with a 302 Ford Motorsports engine and 5 spd trans, for Tom Mckenna, later it got a 351. I was the crew for it in 1999 Pan Am, I painted it red and gray and did the graphics, the car ran and drove nice and could make a vintage race car driver out of just about anyone.

I had seen this car on craigslist a few months ago. It was for sale as a modern recreation.

The El Toro Amarillo's current owner did list it in craigslist in Calif. a few months ago, the car was abandoned at his shop, he now has lien papers for title. it was at his shop for a roll bar and the owner vanished. The LCP American organizer says the #103 is for a ford that year. To my knowledge no one believes this was a car raced in the 50's original race, it raced in the recreated event in the 1990's

I believe Doug Mockett built a Lincoln for the recreated event. He planned to also run Pikes Peak. Best I can figure, our conversation was 25 years ago at Laguna Seca.

He had an Oldsmobile as far back as I can remember, Mockett's Rocket. 2008 Pikes Peak, taken at Tin barn, keep in mind this was the last year for dirt. I think he was the winner in the vintage historic class
