Here is some inspiration for your buddy. Like the pipes and the NOT channel on Rudy’s, otherwise lots of similarities, especially all being quite short! Hope your buddy follows through and builds one!

Here you can see Rudy’s “T” is definitely NOT channeled! Every fraction of an inch of interior room is precious in a Hot Rod, and especially in a “T”.

Truthfully except for the chrome and duplicating the nailhead with the carbs that wouldn't be a hard or spendy build. Plus unless he is shooting for a clone he can always fudge a tad here and there and get away with it.
I beam with split bones on the front,
A rails that have the front crossmember replaced with a tube crossmember and suicide front perch,
T body sitting on top of the rails. Add a pretty severe Z step right behind the body on the frame and box the rails.
Ford Banjo rear. Torque tube and 39 box if you want to stay authentic.
Then you start spending real money.

good looking car, interesting with the windshield so far above the driver's head and the recessed firewall must make it a tight fit even without a channel.
    love it

I’ve always liked that car. I think it made the rounds of the Southern California cars shows back then.

  18. Nice enough little T. I'd drive it but I'd drive it into my shop and fix those exhaust pipes. Maybe they were the first set the guy ever built. That rear pipe is the Bird.

I guess its one of those things where if you are a certain height and other details you may be able to lean certain ways in Hotrod, Others not so much although there are clever ways of accommodating height and width...they are many times built to owner...

Are you talking visual flow or warming paint...I think they're fitting to the build. It's part of its charm really...typical of period...chromed. I wouldn't change a thing except pray I would fit in it...I'm thinking not...

If he did it all himself he probably sat and stared at them over a beverage before sending them for chrome...

  21. It's the visual effect of lack of flow compared to the rest of the total package. Put's my mind into overdrive about what I would have done different instead of just admiring it. It just looks out of place in plain sight. I'm sure he had his reasons but.

What's with the nearly vertical steering columns in T-buckets like this? Do they do it to get the steering box out of the way to make room for the engine? I have never driven a van or bus with the steering wheel like that and thought "this would be great for my hot rod."

That thing is like a Ratfink come to life...that pic with him sitting in it hand on shifter makes me fink a lot bigger character used to drive it...there was no windshield high enough for them either...:D

Perhaps there's a correlation to apehanger bars on motorcycles...Hotrod and Bikes had a close relationship back in the day...

^^^^ You had to be there. During that period it was kind of a styling feature, like the tall windshield with support rods or the front spring on a perch in front of the radiator. T buckets evolved like everything else. Most noticeably, the front wheels and tires got smaller and the rears got bigger and the bodies got lower with less body rake.
The T bucket I built in high school had the steering wheel tilted slightly towards the seat at the suggestion of my metal shop teacher. I wanted it true horizontal ‘cause that’s the way I saw it in the magazines and thought it was cool.

You fellas lived it, I'm inspiring it...but I'll take it...My Ole Hotrod...the Time Machine...;)

There's some things you can never replicate though as it's a different world...it's funny though every once in a while theres a setting that is stuck back in time...rare but it happens...and like old Hotrod/Customs you know it when you see it...

  28. I have nothing to add other than I have wanted to build a T bucket like this for a long time. All I need is time, space, and money and it’s on!

You can still build these cars relatively inexpensively if you choose to, and are willing to put in the time. I suggest trying to find a donor car for the engine, transmission, rear end, and whatever else you can scavenge off it. If you just order all your parts from a catalog that quickly drives up the price. You can build one to resemble any time period you like. Of course, if you insist on all period correct parts, that will drive up the price as well.

I don't know what's still out there in your area, but the days of finding a good running small block/auto and rear that doesn't require major work are getting rare. Think GM RWD intermediate. Trucks are getting good money unless it got rusty and then was stored dry.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chevrolet_vehicles
most are at least 30-40 years old and if not collectible/valuable, are beat and gone.
Even crate engines that were under 1500 in the back of mags are hundreds more now.
    https://www.summitracing.com/search...ze=25&SortBy=DisplayPrice&SortOrder=Ascending

Can you beat the bushes and track down an engine/trans cheap? Yeah, but that negates the donor and all the other stuff reused in the build. Finding that carbed HEI '75 Malibu 4 door that doesn't need a complete rebuild isn't likely. Who wants a S-10 blazer V6 auto bucket?
I just did a local CL search and nothing. Then I went to your area, central FL. 2 cars under 3k with V8 and RWD that were pre-2000. A Fairmont and a Satellite. Both 2K or less, but sitting for years (not running). The only other that might work is a 96 Explorer that is running.
