Hi, I found this engine on feebay a couple hours ago. I have asked the guy what displacement the engine is but i haven't had a reply yet and it ends pretty soon. I was hoping there was someone here who knows a bit about these LS1 engines and may be able to tell me:eek:

I'm in England and these motors are fairly rare over here!

Any help would be great. Thanks.:D

LS series engines are not HAMB friendly - that having been said its a nominal 327 ci - about 5.4 litres to you metric traitors.

More than likely a LY5 Vortec 5300 (5.3 litre) 320hp in SUVs, 315hp in a Pickup. "IF" its the flexfuel version it would be designated LMG with same ratings. The basic V8 for pickups and SUVs in both the Chevy and GMC lineup.

    325, not 327. Don't even go there.

So are you saying its the 4.8 281ci and NOT the 5.3 325ci? How can you tell?

Still no reply from the seller:( Thanks for the help fellas.

  7. best way to identify any engine is find the casting numbers and plug them into google.

i was thinking the 346, but i guess it could be the 325. All the kids around here have found STUPID amounts of cheap power from these. Cam and headers make them wake up so much it's not even funny. Heads will do even more.

But the latest trend is to grab the 5.3 and hang a snail on it for about 12 pounds of boost, then turn it up to 14 if needed, pop the motor, toss it out and replace with another one (they're so cheap)

OR when you pop the 5.3 then you grab a bigger one and swap that in (like going from a 327 to a 400 sbc- just bolts in) what do you want, cheap, easy 6-800WHEEL HP? get some.

the iron truck block is the winner for longterm durability, but the alloy ls1 made my friend's rx7 lighter by replacing the itty bitty rotary

Thanks for the help fellas. It just ended but went for more that i hoped so i didn't get it :( The final auction price was £1950 which is $3150.21:eek:

Guess i should try and get a container load from a salvage yard and ship them over, sure wreckon it would make some good profit

    Regards, Steve.

I`ve seen a lot of EvilBay sellers offering these "LS-1" engines without disclosing the actual displacement. Usually it`s a 4.8 ltr, but buyers ***ume it`s a 5.3.

Not trying to imply that there are possible dishonest sellers on Ebay, but .....

I have salvage yard connections and have experience with international shipping. If you are truely serious, I am in. Could be a nice enterprise for both of us.

  12. Yeah, imagine the damage to eBay's reputation if that happened.... oh, wait.
