I found these in a box of old emblems someone gave me. Most were junk and are hanging on a friends garage wall, but these we never could figure out. The Dodge and Chrysler are 3 1/4 inches in diameter. This one is hard to read in pics but it says "Safe Drivers Club of America" and is 3 3/4 inches in diameter.
Do you think they're too big to be hubcap centers? They look more exterior than interior (like horn buttons or something). The holes were punched for mounting on the garage wall, right? They don't look 'factory'.
The holes were there when i got them. They're not grill badges, i've been into Mopars for years and never seen these before. They look like promotional stuff of some sort. Here's what the back looks like. The back of the other one is flat. It is much heavier guage also.
These were from the late "50s you could order them off the back of Wheaties cereal boxes. One set was for American cars the other set was European.
Definitely all are grille badges. Add-ons by owners. Usually found through JC Whitney and such back in the Fifties, especially, but the badge thing started in the Twenties. NOT a factory item.
The "Safe driver club of america" one has what looks like a steam locomotive on it and is really heavy so i'm guessing it's pretty old. I have them displayed with some of my die cast stuff.
30Dodge is spot on with the 2 Mopar pieces. I've had several over the years and have seen them at swap meets forever. They are thin tin stampings, way too light weight to be actual car parts. I can't verify the foreign ones, as my eye never pick up European stuff unless it's Fiat.
