Looks like it's an oakland, they became Pontiac, but I have never seen a truck, maybe an oakland car made into a truck?

The roots of the Pontiac automobile go back to the 1890s and Edward M. Murphy's successful Pontiac Buggy Co. in Pontiac, Michigan.
In the early 1900s, Murphy took an interest in the smoking, sputtering "horseless carriages". He equipped a section of his buggy works for car production, and on August 28,1907, founded the Oakland Motor Car Co. Less than two years later, Oakland joined General Motors.
In the mid-20s, Oakland faced the challenge of bringing out a "companion car". Pontiac-the "Chief of the Sixes" made its debut at the 1926 New York Auto Show. It was named after the famous Indian chief who had banded together four Indian nations into a powerful confederation. The car was such a success that the "parent," Oakland, was dropped by 1932.

Here is a 1918 oakland, hard to compare the two pics, but the cowl looks similar

Maybe as a customized creation OR out of necessity during the war. Someone said on another thread that trucks recieved MORE gas rations then cars!

  14. I have the Krause Pontiac-Oakland book and while the 1918 through about 1927 models show some similarities, it's only the 26-27 that have that body line and the cowl is different on them. None have a grille shell that matches this one, unless the 1916-1917 do (not that likely). They all look pretty flat faced. Windshield is home made or an addition, too, which doesn't help. Body side line might even be an add-on since it looks angled across the cowl.

However, I have no doubt that they registered it with a 19xx Oakland title.

The winged emblem on the grille shell reminds me of early Dodge Brothers. Not Oakland though, there's was oval shaped and said Oakland across it. Unless they changed it?

embarras you?!?!? HELL NO!! I really want the I.D. on it! love the late greats to, have owned 2 of each '58-64, in the past and now own 4 '64, and a '63
plus the '30 and the '49, and THIS elusive cowl!! I need I.D. because if I cannot verify what it is, the local yocals will make me register it as a "home made 2006" which equals to" 2006 emmisions!!! 6- dueces and open headers with slicks won't pass there!?!??!

My guess is it started out as a Ford A with a more or less home-built body.
But then again, what the hell do I know?

Look at those wheels. They're freakin' awesome!
