Can anyone help me identify what year and possible size this Ford y block motor is? I found it in a barn with the 3 Deuce manifold and transmission still attached.
Hard to tell without casting numbers but valve covers and spin-on oil filter would suggest early '60's 292.
ALL BLOCKS HAVE 6015 in the block casting number. This is found on all blocks and is Ford's number for an engine block. Example- EDB 6015 E BLOCK I.D. CODES NOTES CEBY 256-272 cu in Cast in Canada. Block identification number generally on side of block above oil filter for blocks cast at Cleveland. Dearborn block I.D. number near distributor and above generator. Most Dearborn blocks used in trucks. No Dearborn blocks after 1957. There were no special truck blocks. Heavy duty trucks with steel cranks used C1AE or C2AE car blocks. Nearly all Dearborn blocks after 1954 were 272's. Most 292 and 312 blocks are from the Cleveland foundry. www.ford-y-block.com
This is a 60s motor; note the unmachined boss for the missing road draft tube behind the fuel pump. This dates it to '62-64, so it's almost surely a 292 and may be a truck motor.
B9 indicates 1959. However, that is the year the mold was made, and not necessarily the year in which the final part was cast and machined. Ford would often use a mold for multiple model years if it was possible. Looks like a 292 according to Rick's List above.
Now 2019 old info never die My 56' Vicky runs the Merc B9AE with triples great combo. "Some rule with an iron fist, some with an irony" Chick
How many of us just said to ourselves “Cool. That was almost 4 years ago. Wonder what he did with it after he found the casting marks?” Pat
Yep, side mounts on the bell-housing and short tail-shaft on the trans indicate it has probably been from a F100 or similar.
Good morning! I'm a new member to this exellent Forum. So to say, a newcomer in for some advise. Here are some pics of a Ford engine that is a barn find. It looks like a Ford Side valve 1172 cc. Well, this topic is devoted to Y-blocks, but I've not found more appropriate thread. So, the question is, if it's possible to decode the block cast numbers, in order to identify the production year, manufacturing plant and a car (truck?) that this motor was intended for? Unfortunately I do not know the bore/stroke size, for all I have are just pics. Thanks in advance for any answer, idea, clue et cetera. That appears to be C 155306 number, accompanied with a star:
probably from something like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Prefect edit: changed link to reflect that it's a 1938 engine
here's the list of serial numbers. Looks like 1938. https://www.smallfordspares.co.uk/identification-charts/engine-chassis-numbers
Yep, that seems to be the right hit and just on the head! I was kind of misled by that Ford logo and thought it should've been anything "younger". Thank you very much indeed!
