Hi, here's the story, I bought a 55 f100 that was in a dirt lot rusting away for $600. Took it home cleaned it out and dropped a 350/350 that I had sitting around. Now i am getting close to getting it back on the road after rewiring it, fixing lights, seats, gauges, etc. When I bought it I only got a bill of sell, so after searching for the vin I only found the plate on the glove box which appears to have been tampered with. I read that there was another VIN located in the front crossmember (which was chopped off the truck, one of the many unexplainable and half assed mods on the truck). Any one know where on the frame rails are the other VINs? with all the dirt, rust, and grime on it I would need to sandblast to find them, so has any of you know the exact place where they are? THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS!
Another place to look is on top of the frame rails (try the passenger side first), just in front of where the cab mounts. The one on my '55 was under about a pound of grease and grime, stamped into the frame, but was easy to read once the area was cleaned off. The guy installing a Nova clip for me found it, so he cut the frame just ahead of that, so as to keep the VIN on the original frame.
If I remember correctly: Frame numbers are either on the right side (passenger) of the forward crossmbmer, 53 and 54 On the right frame rail just behind the forward crossmember, 54 and 55 On the left frame rail just above the original steering box location, 56 and of course on the glove box door
