I remembered looking in a catalog somwhere and seeing someone who sold threaded inserts for mounting stuff into boxed frames and a tool that installed them. It wasn't very expensive either. I thought it was in the speedway catalog but I can't seem to find it now. Anyone have a clue as to what I speak of? Thanks in advance!
That looks like the ones! I wonder where I saw it in a hot rod book. I remember it was a lot cheaper. Oh well, I am sure I will come across it after I order one! Thanks!
I got the whole kit from Mac but the tool won't install the bigger ones, you have to use a wrench to tighten them.
I dont own the tool, I use a wrench, and a ratcheing wrench, two apropriately sized nuts and a bolt. It works just like the tool you buy.
Eastwood Co. has a real nice set-up called a Hand Rivet Nut Tool Kit. It comes witht he installation tool and four different size inserts, #6, #8, #10 and the largest being 1/4"-20 They also sell additional inserts for when you run out. I bought one of these kits when I was running brake and fuel lines to make it easier to secure the lines to the frame rails. This deal may well be one of the best toolsets I ever bought. They are not super expensive and it's easy to use. Definately recommended.
I bet that is where I saw it! You know when all you do is build belly button 1-800 cars like I do it is hard to remember what catalog you bought out of! Ha ha ha
Our local True Value has the inserts seperate and you can buy a tool or use the 2 nut trick to get by on the cheap
Man three posts in one week how'd we get so lucky? I know of what you speak. You should know to ask your go to guy first. Depending on what size you want I'll be able to get them at my cost(free). We call em riv-nuts also. Show some pics of something this post sucks!
I have a kit by Marson, called rivet-nuts and thread-serts. I've used them for years, and they rock! You can get the kit(s) and refills, etc. from J.C. Whitney.
CarQuest stores handle them in the POP brand by Helicoil, they don't stock all sizes but they can have them next day.
Yup, we got 'em! Ex stock, rivnut tool and selection of rivnuts. Hotrodders favourite... Tool about $140.00 NZD approx. Rivnuts at selected sizes and price. I guess the return airfare could make it a little expensive, but the weather has been nice and the Rodding season is about to begin.. Cheers, Cruisin'
You just want to see our nuts you freak. Well you can feel my taint but no nut grabbing! If I run over tonioght are you going to let me steel some 3/8" Rod? Or will I need to squeeze your nuts to get it?
