Technical anyone made top irons

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by hotrodstar, Sep 17, 2013.

  1. I used a reproduction set of irons for our 32 roadster. They were used and I got a fair price. The fabric was rotted so we just cut it off to use as a pattern for the new cloth. Cut the main "down bar" about 3 inches to get the chop I wanted.

I never fold mine back but just (rarely) take the entire top off. It wouldn't fold flat anyway with all that fabric. If I had to do it again and wanted to save the $$ I think we could make our own using tubing, strap, conduit, etc. and not worry about it folding. Like the other posts have described.

I ended up liking the car much better with the top on anyway...

What do you guys use for the cloth? I'm going to try to build a top from an old top. Mine has a chopped and layed back windshield so it will need to be custom. Some great info on here.

Found these prints somewhere, I used them to make the top for my roadster pickup and my buddy's 29 roadster
