first of all I didn't say anyting about it being easier to put a chevy in a Ford, reason being that I have never tried a Ford swap. second, if you are a decent fabricator making your own mounts is not difficult (I made mine in about 3 hours) and unless i'm wrong wouldn't you still have some fabricating to do no matter what motor/tranny you put in unless it was the original type of motor. and for your information I looked for a motor and tranny for about 3 months before i found this one.(all the ones I could find either needed rebuilt or were incomplete and I didn't want to rebuild or go searching for the rest of the parts, an added expense mind you.) I found this motor in a running driving car and pulled it out myself in just a few hours and had no added expense. Oh, and by the way i only paid 200.00 for it. sorry but around here ford motors are a little more expensive than that.

I got my 350 free and the tranny almost free. The swap was kinda hard. I have seen the ones that are done useing the orig oil pan and it just dosent look right. Now on the swap . If you are going to keep the car go for it BUT if you think you will ever sell it you better put a ford in it . No one wonts a 55 56 or 57 ford accept a ford person.

If you were ever to sell the car to me I would make you remove the chevy motor before handing over the cash or it better be cheap,I am so sick of looking at chevy motors and I dont belive the crap about getting them cheaper then ford motors as smallblock fords are everywhere I look and find them cheap. Since the 5.0 mustangs became popular I have seen parts for the sbf at almost the same prices as for a sbc,if one was to rebuild them the machine work should be the same for any motor unless there was work needed to repair damage. Actually I am thinking about removing the 351-W from my 55 sunliner to replace it with a Y block,I know it will be more expensive to rebuild then any sbf or sbc and I dont care as I dont want to be like everyone else with late model crap. There, all better, I deleted my post whaa, figures you'd get all butt hurt. Didn't see ya jump in anyone else's pile for telling you your bad idea is a bad idea. If your going to build a Freakin' Hermaphrodite, at least use somthing cool like a 409/Early Hemi/Olds/Nailhead/etc...

Here, since you asked how to, here's a how too,
How to put a Ford in a Ford for cheap:

Buy one of these lumps of crap, drive it home, steal drivetrain, junk the rest, put Ford drivetrain in Ford.

I have a 55 Fairlane and I am putting in a built up 292 Y Block to replace a 272 Y Block ! The 292 I am building will have all the speed goodies , 3/4 race cam in it and a 3x2 on top ! You could put in a 351W stroked out to make 500 HP too . Ford motors fit real nice in Fords ! Now there are some real options on what to put in your Ford !!!

can you find a small block ford, complete from carb to oil pan from water pump to tail shaft and with all the accesories from a running driving car for 200.00. if so i would like to see proof. and as for as being the same cost to rebuild, sure the machining should be about the same cost but the fact is that sbc parts are way less expensive than ford. just look in Jeg's or summit or go to any auto parts store and you will see for yourself. and again like i said i just put in what i could get at the time and in my budget.any way i thought that hot rodding was all about building what you want to build. besides, ford guys are just jealous that chevy stuff gets put in fords way more than ford stuff in chevy.

In this thread you've gotten just a small taste of the reaction that I mentioned that you'll get most everywhere you go. If you choose to continue with this swap, in the face of the wise advice you've gotten here...well...it is your choice and you'll have to live with the grief. If you like being controversial, then yeah, this is a good swap for you. I hope you never have to sell it, though.

Cams, intakes, carbs, and all that stuff is about the same price. If you go with aluminum heads all that crap, yea, Fords are more. Fairly basic rebuild, about the same.

    Ford 302 Economy Rebuild Kit
    Federal Mogul EmKP260A 300 $269

    Chevy 350 Economy Rebuild Kit
    Federal Mogul EMKP158A 30 $229

    Intake Edelbrock Performer.
    Ford $159
    Chevy $128

    Cam, Comp 260h with kit(example)
    Ford $340
    Chevy $290

With all machine work being equal and a TH350- C4 difference is negligable due to both neing good transmissions, $120 for an easier install seems like a no brainer, cores are evrywhere

The Chevys are cheaper because they're throw away motors.

wow... i aint never heard such a buncha hooey before... i seen small block bowtie motors in EVERYTHING. never once have i heard someone bitch, gripe or get pissed off about it, besides a good natured ribbing or tease. ease of swap aside, cost of parts aside... its a full fender'd car, with a hood... who gives a shit how it gets down the road?

AMEN..... I just picked up a 1970 351 Cleveland with 21,000 original miles for $200.... and there is a trans on it!
As for installation, 1963 Galaxie 289 mounts on any 302, 351w, or cleveland, and it is in... No fuss or muss.....
Like I read, if you plan on keeping it forever, go ahead with the Chevy. If there is a chance you may resell, you will have a tough time.......
Good luck with it no-matter-what you do.

My final thought on this is if I hear about any more people wanting to put a sbc in any Ford I will buy a 55-7 Chevy (or any pre 60 chevy) and put a Ford motor in it,I am looking for a beater that I can drive in any weather and sit outside so a Chevy with a Ford motor might be what I build. I really want to build one to shut up the Chevy poeple and give them a taste of their own medicine. Jeff
