Turned up today on the FB group "Mid-Century in Color - Amateur photographic slides and prints, 1935-1962". Quoting poster Ronald Wenger, "Some of my dads color slides from the Southwestern Michigan Blossom Time Parade in Benton Harbor, Michigan." I'm guessing maybe a '36 3-window from the shape of the roof, with a windshield, hood and fenders from a '40, all heavily modified, with '49 Lincoln headlight bezels and '49 Plymouth bumpers. Another two photos from the grouping show a split-windshield (prototype?) Kaiser Darrin, so I suppose this is from 1953 or 1954. Over to the experts!
They say " Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but not my eyes. A lot of body work, for a different result.
It appears that the builder decided to keep the drip rails and also kept the windshield wipers, but without doors or side windows, plus exposed interior padding, it's doubtful that it would ever be driven in the rain! Definitely not easy for a tall or fat guy to climb into or get out of quickly! That being said, it looks unique for pulling parade floats!
There was a similar but different looking custom (at least to me) at Trog at Flabob. I think it was posted here with some history on it IIRC.
looks like he ran out of customizing energy when he got to the hood.... I have seen a car like that, but without the roof
