Looking to see if anyone remembers or knows any history on this race car. Car was supposedly raced in the Flint, Lansing & Detroit area in the 60’s & 70’s. Coupe, more than likely had different paint in the 50’s & 60’s. Rumor has it the coupe was chopped by the Alexander bros in the late 50’s. Any info about this car would be much appreciated.
Bump for the evening crowd. Since it's been repainted, what might be a couple of identifying features of this car that would tie it back to the 60's? Without some identifying help, it is one more a**** hundreds of Henry five windows.
That’s a *****’N coupe, Scott. I love hot rods with history and looks like yours has it. Hope you come up with more information from some Michigan Old Timers. Anymore details might help. Name of previous owners, previous color, drag strips the car ran, etc. Good Luck !
So, here’s what I was told by the previous owner who bought it from his fathers friend (Gary Benway) who owned it since 1955. It was raced out of a Speed Shop in Flint Mi named “Kustom Equipment” in the 60’s & 70’s. Previous owner was told by Gary Benway that the car was chopped by (The Alexander Bros) in the late 50’s in Detroit. Gary Benway who p***ed in 2018 had a well known rod upholstery shop and he was known as (The Mad Pleater). Gary has a son named Brent who Gary had drive the drag car in its later days. The previous owner took out the bop 9.3 rear end and replaced it with its current 9” housing and boxed the frame along with current structure changes and rear coil overs. He tig welded everything and did an excellent job. I have all this do***ented in writing and notarized by the previous owner. What I’m looking for is anyone in the Michigan area that might know more about this car, stories, pictures any other information than what I have. The car can be seen in the “Cars For Sale” area on The Hamb.
Kustom Equipment was an old Flint Speed Shop..that I do know…if he’s from that area he likely raced at Tri City in Saginaw
Alexander Bros. and Kustom Equipment are two very prestigious historic names in the Hot Rod/Custom world. And your Ford is tied in with both. Surely someone has information on this rod.
Hmmm....I have a couple ties to Kustom Equipment. Lemme throw this at them and see if it sticks. BTW....I live about 4 miles from the original KE building.
I used to hit every car show around the Detroit area in the 80’s. The graphics look familiar, but after looking through my photos I don’t have any photos of it.
Carcruse, thanks for the photo. I actually just heard from Dee Dee and she has given her brother Brent my number. Hopefully should get some more history and maybe even more early pics, if I’m lucky.
