...Thinking about running a heater in my drafty '28 Model A. Up under my dash (32 Ford) there's not a lot of room. I did a search on Vintage Air and didn't find anything. They have a very small unit that may work but I don't want to go to all the trouble of the install without a little research. VA claims that it's the cat's ass but.....
I had one in my closed cab '28 pickup, worked extremely well. I mounted it on the drivers side over the steering column. Summit racing also sells a nice unit that's a bit cheaper than the vintage air piece.
I have one in a '37 Chevy truck, works all most to good. The heaters are hot or off, no temp control. I also added a heater resistor to the low side to slow the fan down even more. My cab is pretty tight so I usually have the windows cracked or cowl vent open to control temperature. Joe
have an older one (two knobs) in my '29 closed cab, mounted on the passenger's side behind a '32 panel. i also have a newer one (single knob) on my '51 coupe. Both work fine and put out enough heat. The defrosts do not do great in either, but defrosts on most older cars, imho, have never been great. I will put a VA heater/defrost in my next Model A; but will spend more time trying to get good defrost air flow all the way to the windshield, past the dash rail.
Heres my Tropic-Aire with Spal fan - works great! N.O.S. 1941 fan from EBAY. The fan bolted up in the stock holes. 10 minute job.
I used the small Vintage Air Heater and hid it behind an old swap meet cover with doors that distribute the heat to the left, right and center, after a few modifications. It work great, and looks old, and traditional. HemiDeuce.
Their very small unit isn't all that small, but it worked out okay in my truck. Blows air like crazy though. High and medium are almost unusable.
I have one in my 40 pickup and it will run you out of there. I like it so well that I'm putting one in my project 40 pickup. Both have the defroster features.
Had one in my 5 window and it worked great. Three speed fan and water control valve made it very flexible. John
I had a V.A. heat only unit. Be aware that the it requires a vacuum line to open/close the doors, and the blower fan is very noisy. At least mine was. My car is not quiet to begin with, but I found it annoying enough to pull it out and replace it with something quieter. It did work real well though..
