http://www.lastrefugehotrod.com/roadster.html I'm trying to get back to my roots in hot-rodding. I've been looking at one of these as a base for a minimalist street rod... kinda' like a nicely finished and well put together, good driving, good handling, good stopping 50-60's retro rod. I'm picking up a used 283 tomorrow morning ($75SCORE ) to rebuild and have already located a 700r4 which should work really well with some 4.11's when the engine is singing along at 7500rpm. So... has anyone here tinkered around with one of these or dealt with this company yet? Waste of time and money or ? I won't be able to buy anything until I sell my old bike so I still have plenty of time to formulate my plans. Also... I have a one year old daughter, limited workspace and my time is limited so I definately can't go the "fab-it-all" route anymore like in my youth. Not a fan of bolt-together's but... BTW... I'm new to this message board but have been lurking for quite a while and really like what I've seen so far. I came across it when I was googling some 283 info a while back and came across an awesome thread... very cool and useful info. this thread... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164424 Thanks in advance!!! Craig Sorry for the shameless plug here... (admin let me know if you want me to edit/remove this part) but... if you know anyone looking for an older Harley... http://www.hdforums.com/m_2099387/tm.htm ...plus I might consider a 27-34 Ford trade if it was exactly what I wanted... or Hatch's 5 Window coupe ...plus one of my kidnies and a few fingers and toes.
I have never dealt with them, but if I was to do an kit pickup (no I don't mean that as a slam) I would want the one like I saw at SoCal Las Vegas a few years ago. It was evidently a re pop Aussie truck (Ute as it were) where the bed and the cab were all one piece. It was on a Deuce frame IIRC. Looked neat to my eye, and would be different. And no I don't work for SoCal.
I ordered a pu box from him in June and paid for it in trade. He has my goods but I never did get the box. He always says he is busy and will ship it next week. I doubt I'll ever get it but at least I didn't pay cash up front. Seems like a nice guy on the phone.
Since I didn't see an intro from you decker, welcome to the HAMB! And greetings from Wausau's sister city, by the way!
ive always want a RPU and i was just getting ready to say that looks like a good start for my next project but if youve dealt with him and got screwed its highly unlikely id order anything from him.. Thanks for the heads up .. Dave
If the dude is in fact a H.A.M.B.'er... I'd like to see his comments here on this thread. From what I've seen... I sure like the "product".
Check with MAD-CAD here on the HAMB. He had one for sale here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166515&highlight=LAST+REFUGE
****s that he hasn't sent the bed yet. Not a very good way to establish a good reputation. I'm in Pueblo, which is about 6 hours away from him, if you get a HAMB relay started for the bed you'll have a place to keep it here until the next leg of the relay. I don't have a car right now but I'm sure I can get a friend to help out as well. I'm sure there is a HAMBer closer than I am that can stop by and see what the hold up is. Keep us updated on the bed situation.
Thanks but I don't need a HAMB relay. He ships those beds un***embled in a cardboard box. He kept telling me it was no problem, will ship next week. After a bunch of next weeks, I gave up.
Yeah, that's him. His name is Norb. Real nice guy to visit with. Just didn't come thru for me. I don't hate him or anything. Win some, lose some.
There was another guy on here a few months ago and I think he was out of Arizona. Same type deal. Guy takes a bunch of orders for what looks like some high quality merchandise at unbelievably low prices. After a while, the guy figures out that he's selling the stuff for less than what he paid for it and then vanishes into thin air. If anyone, like povertyflats, says that they have trouble with the guy for ****s sake, don't order from him!!! If you come on here and ask for opinions and you ignore them, don't expect any sympathy from anyone.
What do you make of this? http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/norbywan/ If he's selling stuff on e-bay he must have to get his product out in some sort of timely manner... doesn't he? Whatever the situation is... I'm still very interested in his product and hope by the time I'm ready that they have their **** together.
From my experience, no, and the first feedback I saw said 'nice bed, slow delivery'. Just to be clear, that's my experience with other sellers on Epay, I have never had any dealings with him.
he is a real down to earth guy. i have two pickup beds from his co. and for the price you cant beat it. a friend of mine was contemplating buying a rolling roadster pickup he had at the roadster show and im supprised he didnt. if i had the money it would of been in the garage!!
looks exactly like a body which we took on for a customer @ royal kustoms... the body was for lack of a better word rough. the bed wasnt square at all, nearly all the bead rolls were off( not centered correctly in both the bed and the cab) the dash was no more than a peice of flat sheetetal( tack welded) in. everything looked unfinished. price wise, its a good deal, but there will be a fair amount of finishing to get it to look like it should but it may be a different company, so dont hold me to it
I'm slow but good. We still have a bed going out to poverty flats, two to three months is max delay right now. If I raised prices I would probably have less orders but then thats not my style. As a business man I am not very greedy, I just dig supplying cool stuff at good prices. Most people dont mind the wait but others do, Sorry. Norb
I bought and paid, in full, for the pickup bed and parts in May of 2007 and am still without the rest of what I paid for. He speaks with forked tongue - besides he's full if s--t. And as you will see I am going to make as many people aware of this as I can. I don't like seeing anyone else getting screwed.
