Let's hope that in this country we never HAVE to be certified at anything ,to work on ones own vehicle

So...I have been reading through this old thread , And I fully understand the need for articulation and twist on the truck arm rear suspension set up. My question is , Why on the 3/4 ton trucks did they run a 1/8' plate riveted on the bottom of the arms ? Wouldn't this negate the twisting theory?

A little.. The truck was heavier, and expected to harry a bigger load. The plate added strength to keep from cracking the arms. It still flexed just as much at full load.

There are plenty of HAMB folks out that way, and plenty of car friendly welders.

You need a qualified welder. Certification is nice to have, but is most often just a requirement for employment.

There are plenty of qualified welders out there. There are plenty of certified welders that can only p*** the certification test.

Ask to see an example of their work before hiring someone to weld. A good welder will be happy to show you clean even welds, and even perform them while you watch (with a proper helmet).
