Got a front bumper from them for my 50 ford and it looks pretty good to me. I'm no expert but it doesn't look ****ty.
These are the guys that I do business with, they did the bumpers on the wagon 5 years ago and they still look perfect. HRP
My '47 Ford coupe has had BB bumpers on it for 8 to 10 years now and they still look ok. However, I'm currently building a '55 Ford and will need some chrome work done for it, and needless to say, I was considering BB. But now I'm uncertain after reading the comments here. Apparently I was one of the 'lucky' ones back then. Now, like most of you, I'm not building a show car, and would rather not pay for 'show' chrome...just durable and shiny chrome that looks nice on a cruiser. Really glad I read this thread...now I guess I'll be looking closer to home.
I purchased two 46 Ford bumper guards at a show the Boy'z were at and was able to inspect them prior to purchase. Never had a problem with them after being on the car for years. That said, because of all the bad publicity the Boy'z have received, I wouldn't trust them with something I sent them to be chromed. You may not get your originals back and the quality wouldn't be acceptable. Its the old story you get what you pay for. The 63 Impala in my avatar has the bumpers, grill, eyebrows, door handles, headlight bezels, window, hood and trunk trim all re-chromed at a cost of over $7,000.00. Expensive but then again no complaints on the quality from Nashville, TN. Gary
I have original 1939 bumpers on my convertible from Bumper boys - just swapped out cores in Charlotte Auto Fair about 15 years ago - OK quality compared to repop. Also got a set of 1939 Ford standard front bumper and the rear for a sedan delivery - very hard to find due to "walk in to shape" from B/B about 20 years ago. At the time - they asked for a $30 core on the original rear delivery bumper - we paid the core and kept the original for a spare. Quality was good - but not true show car. In comparison - I am helping my boss have Bobby Alloway build a 1940 Deluxe Coupe - his platter in Tenn gets $1,000 per bumper (1940 Ford ) for the show car plating. Great job - show car quality, but much more expense than B/B.
Try TandJ Bumper in Ohio, they do great work at a reasonable price. Tell them the guy with the barber chair from Pa recomended them, mlght help. Call 1-440-474-4434 Tim or Jim father/son team Duck
Guess I was one of the "lucky" ones too. I bought a rechromed one piece front bumper for my 56 Chevy from Bumper Boyz probably 15 years ago in Charlotte and it still looks like new.
Here's a good article on what it takes to triple chrome plate a bumper. http://streettechmag.com/2015/02/02/how-to-get-your-bumpers-re-chromed/
Seriously, How about just changing the thread to DONT USE BUMPER BOYZ. many people have learned their lesson, and people looking to get bumpers chromed should just move on. This question rears its head every year. There are many threads about this topic. Don't know how they stay in business. A listing of AKA business names would suffice also. Once again...if the price seems to good to be true, it probably is. One of 2 things to do for new bumpers. Get recommendations from Friends that have chrome work done locally. Like someone you talk to a lot. OR Find a vintage car wrecker or the same model car getting parted out with very nice bumpers and buy those, even if you buy NOS bumpers sometimes it is cheaper than dealing with a ****py chrome job on a bumper.
They do ****ty work. I sent a pair of 64 Fairlane bumpers very clean to be plated. The plating came back blotchy around the bolt holes, they didn't clean the road tar off the back of the bumpers, just plated over it. No help with shipping, tried to get two bumpers packed together. $400 shipping. My advice, find someone close to you and get lots of recommendations. Take a look at the web, Bumper Boyz have horrible reviews, I didn't look first.

i bought a bumper from them in moultrie this past nov to put on a car that i was selling. got back to my space and when i bolted the braces to the bumper the chrome poped off around the bolts. when took it back to them and they said sorry i over tightened the bolts not there fault [ the brackets were not on the car]
Year in-year out horror stories about these guys, yet they continue to secure swap meet spaces at the top swap meets in the nation (Carlisle, Charlotte, Hershey, Nats, etc). http://www.bumperboyz.com/events-4/ I've said this before; the swap meet organizers should form a consortium and unanimously NOT rent spaces to repeat bad news vendors. After all, it would be to protect their honest patrons (buyers and sellers) from getting fleeced! Otherwise, they'll continue to set up their carnival show from town to town. I'm surprised someone hasn't yet returned a badly plated bumper over their heads.
They are currently at the Turlock swap meet for those of you still looking for them. Current business card has address of 2435 E 54th Street Los Angeles Phone (323)587-8976 Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I have for many years used Universal metal plating in Azusa near the Miller brewery. Their show chrome is copper, nickel, and true old school hexavailant chrome not the modern epa approved trivailant. They are now expensive too but we can thank the EPA for that. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
No, you can thank criminal business operations dumping chromium-6 down the drain, or on the ground, instead of disposing of it properly. But, you know, truth is out of style.
About 10 years ago a friend of mine was building a 65 or 66 Mustang and bought the bumpers from them. Both were total junk, had them send another set, no better than the first set. If I remember right he finally sent them back, and got his money back. Like others have said Advanced Plating. They did most of the plating on my convertible. It is top notch work from them.
''Dream Ridez'' just featured these guys (guyz?) on TV. With a reputation like they have, this is strange. Anyhow, BTT to keep the warning fresh.
I thought I posted here, guess not. A friend of mine sent those jokers a bumper that he had painstakingly repaired (and marked with ID) and they sent back a POS, you guys have been warned. BTW gimpy, move to Oregon, we have companies bottling our tap water for big money and putting all kinds of fancy names on it. The bad news is a lot of the chrome shops have closed up. Can't have it all I guess!
