Anyone use Rhino liner for fender wells and running boards?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 34Hupmobile, Mar 26, 2004.

  1. Just got the bottom sides of the Hupp fenders coated with a slick finish of black Rhino liner. I'm thinking about having the running boards encapsulated with the stuff. Smooth below and textured on top. Anyone else ever do this? How did it turn out? Does it wear well?

That stuff wears extremely well. But I would not recommend a rough texture version on the top side of running boards. Once that stuff gets dirty it's hard as hell to get clean. Road grime, bird*****, dust, grease, it just doesn't matter with the rough version. You won't get it clean. Not only that but imo, that finish would look, well, I don't think it would look good.

I did a car once for a customer and did the back side of the fenders and running boards with Rhino. He lived on a gravel road and never picked up a "star" in the fenders' paint. It isn't "show-car slick" but it will eliminate "stars" in your paint from the bottom side.

Having said that, once it gets dirty, it is dirty. I wouldn't use it on the top side of anything but a daily-driver truck bed.

I had a buddy once who, in the early 1990's, had his running boards coated in some type of rock guard like used on the rocker panels of late model car). Because it was an exact color match (funky orange) to the car, I want to think it was applied and then painted over but that couldn't be the case. We walked all over those running boards and never scratched them. It had the texture and feel of a Linex bed liner (hard and almost like sandpaper)but, like I said, was an exact color match. It washed with soap and water.

Wish I knew what that stuff was.

do a search for speedliner spray in bedliners. I spray it and it can be color matched almost exactly to your color. An added bonus is that it won't turn all chalky like some of the other products. Too bad you're on the other side of America!

you can get the stuff harrison mentioned at pretty much any automotive paint store. I think you can just get it in clear to spray over the areas you want it on after you've painted.

A friend of mine recently had the entire underside of his 50 Merc done in Rhino liner - including the underside of the hood and deck lid. It actually turned out really sano. The rest of his car is real high end, pro-built, awesome paint, etc. and the Rhino looks right at home with the rest of it.

Did the running boards on a friends 51 F-1 about three years ago, looks the same as the first day. Semi smoothe texture, easy to clean. They were rough and have bondo patches, look good now!!........OLDBEET

Neighbor across the street from me, just bought a 66 Bronco that a fellow had started restoring. He, the first owner, sprayed the lining like Rhino on the interior floor boards.
It looks very good and right in place for an off road vehicle.

I am leaning towards putting it on the underneath of the Ford 47 fenders and floors.

As anyone who has had it in a p/u bed floor can tell you, it is tough stuff.
